Title: F-ing Theives
Post by: bowhuntersd on August 07, 2011, 10:07:41 AM: I went to go check my trail cam yesterday and found that someone had stolen it. :yike: :'( . The thing that pisses me off the most is that I had it on private property, just behind my house. I have been trying to keep people out of this property but with no luck. Every thing I put up (signs, road blocks & other things) just get ripped down. If I find them, GOD I hope I find them..... :bash: . Any Ideas of how to keep them off this property?

Or how about a sign by your cam that says "if you are reading this you are on private property and you picture has already been taken multiple times by multiple cameras. We will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law".

Or I would say set some really good bait for them....a lumber pile with some tools and set up some hidden cameras or wait there yourself. Usually it is only one theif or group, so if you catch them once it should be good. Even if the judge let's them walk, you should be able to get their names and can file a restraining order on them, then if they come around again I think it's a much worse sentence.

I feel for you buddy, it would almost be worth paying the big bucks to get a cam that sends pix to your phone immediately when taken just to know who's sneaking in on your property then deal with it privately!

But the sad reality of it is there is probably nothing you can legally do to keep those type of people from trespassing. Hopfully you catch them and get the authorities to handle it. He has several pics of people looking up there like dang that would be a neat cam to steal, but they haven't got one yet. I got a couple at home, one I put up with a ladder but the other is probably gonna get ripped off, just because thats how some people are. Though I will say the surveyors near my house are cool, they were looking and laughing on my cam pics so I assume they were talking about showing me the moon or something.

That just sucks there are so many thieves. Its crazy how many people on this site alone have had their cams stolen. I have been looking for a deal on tree climbing gear, just to make them cams a little less accesible. Like I said its been working for my buddy and he knows people can see his hanging up there. Most thieves are lazy pieces of sh** so any extra effort they have to make might not be worth it.

I checked mine last week and seen an exact same camera set up 50yds away:( I'm sure they didn't see mine, but it still sucked. Regardless. I left theirs untouched, outside of taking a pic of my son and I coming down the hill. They didn't have theirs in a box. Someone could of taken it easily.

Post by: norsepeak on August 07, 2011, 07:57:30 PM: I just went up the other night to check one of my cameras and found that sombody had stolen my bait and my memory card but left the camera on the tree, but pointing in a different direction....very frustrating after a two week soak...but atleast I got the camera back...have to find a better spot :bash:

That's exactly what I told my wife. I've also thought of the road spikes, deep pits, and other ideas, but the problem is that people have been using this property for years and then I come in and shut it down, They're probably pissed. I don't care how they feel though STAY THE F*%# OFF MY PROPERTY. I don't want to do anything to extreme as I don't want anyone missing with my house.

Post by: whacker1 on August 08, 2011, 10:22:40 AM: careful with booby traps as that is just as much against the law, and quite easy to prosecute once someone gets injured. But they are knee jerk reaction when you have been wronged, I understand that.

I think you need cameras high in the air getting pictures at the gate, and put out "bait cameras". "bait cameras" are cameras that have no value, don't work, but appear to be quite nice. You then get your cameras High up in the tree with infrared flash pointing down at the bait camera. Your actual cameras need to be pretty well camoflaged, so they aren't shot or vandalized by the person that realized they were on candid camera.

Security patrol if there is people parking at your gate that would allow entry. Expensive, but random security patrol from a third party would get the word out in the area that you mean business. Word spreads fast.

Post by: bloodhound on August 09, 2011, 12:48:24 PM: go to all the houses around the property and hand out notices saying that due to the fact that you are having a trespassing problem that there is now 24 hour security on the property and any trespassers will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. you apologize if they are not the ones doing it but you are going to every ones door. say you know it might have been a place where children played but now under your ownership you would appreciate it if the parents would remind there kids to stay off the property as they will held to the law as well and will be prosecuted "when" caught on the property. then make them sign a copy so you have legal documentation stating that you explained this to them so they know you mean business. then when you catch there kid on your property and the kid says i didnt know you can say too bad your folks signed a document saying your family understood the situation and throw the book at em. if its an adult you catch then they cant say they didnt know or it wasnt posted."because they keep taking taken down".
