Title: buying a new rifle
Post by: link on August 07, 2011, 01:44:19 PM: Just your guys' thoughts on the best place to buy a new rifle. I know i've bought from a few different places in the past, fed way disc. , kesselrings, sportco. Just curious on other opinions and experiences.
I'm thinking about getting a Remington xcr 2 in a 300rum. I like the coating stuff with the xcr. I also like the cdl. Not quite decided yet.

I have had great service at outdoor imporium in seattle, I have bought my last two guns from them. they have allot of ammo in stock also,

www.lowpriceguns.com (http://www.lowpriceguns.com) They are in Bellevue. I found them online and have bought 2 guns from them. Weatheryby Vanguard 257 mag, it's on its way. Tell them Steve from Curlew reccommended them.

Overall, a good rifle. But due to the caliber and how it is put together, you may be in for a project as I was...

1. The stock sucks. plastic, hollow, not well suited for a 300 RUM
2. the Trigger guard can slap your finger on recoil. Due to this being a RUM and very light it will push hard into your shoulder and I found it slammed into my trigger finger.
3. The barrels are pretty thin. I was hoping for a thicker barrel for the caliber.
4. The Trinyte coating.. I like it but it did flake on the barrel in one area. Not happy about it.

So.. you might find yourself doing what I did:

replaced stock with HS Precision Thumbole.
replaced barrel with Hart #5 26"
recoated the barrel and action with durracoat.

After doing all of this, I learned one thing:

I should have saved my money and bought a used Remington Sendero in 300 RUM. I pretty much comes with everything I did and is built like a 300 RUM should be. My suggestion is you do the same.

As to where to buy.. you can go on gunbroker and find hundred of shops with private buyers that might cut you a better deal.

Post by: link on August 08, 2011, 05:18:06 PM: Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I also feel the stock seemed a little "cheap". The coating issue suprises and concerns me. That was one of the selling features for me. The sendero is heavier, and more expensive, but I do like the heavier barrell on it.

Post by: MDGrand on August 08, 2011, 09:39:29 PM: Yeah, I would just save your money up a few more months and find a Sendero. The Sendero's come with a heavier barrel, a B&C stock and are pretty money. Cabelas in Lacey from time to time has a used Sendero you can check out too.
