Anyone fishing off the bar, shipwreck, boxcar, or humpy hollow? Much action yet?

I was out Sunday morning with 1000 of my best friends.  Did not boat a single fish.  Saw only 2 boated in the entire time we were out.  Not much on the fish finder either.

No fish today. Had a couple takedowns, but no hooksets. It was one of those frustrating days, where it seems like they are catching fish around you, but you cant catch one to save your life. I only saw 3 fish caught, but back at the launch in Everett people said they were catching a lot at first light. Oh well, I'll be back out Fri morn.

caught four and lost four at the boat all in the first 45 min. and then the bite was over as soon as the sun came up. Going out again in the morning.

Fished near shipwreck and humpy hollow. Lost a few, boated 5 in the morning. Fished from 60 to 125 feet down. D-Rock and BobcatRobcat as guests on the boat. I just sat back and they did all the fishing. Brining fish now, smoking tomorrow.

Thanks for the fishing trip I had a lot of fun.  I don't get out on the salt very often as you could tell but I think I could pick it up really fast.
Here's Robcat-Bobcat with a few of today's fish.

We stuck a few and lost a few. I'm finding fish a bit deeper. Once the sun is up I've hooked up most of them between 100 and 140. I've still seen schools finning on the surface but with sun and boats they are staying down.

We got 4 today from Edmonds south, I was unwilling to join the Armada around Mukilteo. Dunno what the deal was today but we lost a ton, most of them would start yanking on the gear just short of hard enough to pull it out of the release so you would pop it for them and they would come off.

Yeah but I had a good time, thank again F! That blue glo on the water in the early am darkness was sooo freaking cool! Yeah and I swear we lost 10 of those little bastages! I think I lost at least 4 same as you, not even counting the one I knocked off with the net! DOH!      :sry:

I left work early yesterday to take the kids out to Lake Stevens and pull them on the tube but the weather got bad so we changed our mind and me & the twins went to the river. Pretty slow out there really - saw a couple onesies, twosies here & there but definitely not real hot out there yet for sure. I launched at Lowell and then ran down to the 1st bridge there, what Hwy 2, looking for fish and couldnt find them. Finally worked my way up to Snohomish and there was a guy just leaving a hole right across from the Pilchuck that had 4 nice ones and he showed me right where he was - nice guy there for sure! So we anchor in 3 feet of water - no BS 3 feet - and soon after start hooking fish. All around that area it is really shallow and we had 2 rods plunkin 3 feet deep and I was tossing a jig into the 'channel' where it was 6-7 feet deep. Got 3 on the bait setups and 2 on the jigs - lost all but one.  :bash:  Even on barbed hooks! The one we got was on a spin n glo with yarn and shimp tail and 1/0 sickle style hook - right in the corner of the mouth - it wasnt coming out. Nice little 3-4# bright hen with sea lice. The other ones we didnt really get good hooks sets since they caught us by suprise and bit RIGHT at the boat. One picked up the bait and hooked it self but we closed the loop thing on the rod holder and couldnt get the rod out! It was back there splashing and & rolling and got off before we got the rod out! Justin hooked one on the jig and we didnt pull the plunkin lines so guess where it went....  got under those lines and lost it too.  I guess we got what we deserved there. I think part of the problem was fishing so shallow that when you get them next to the boat - which was almost immediately, they still have too much spunk and toss it really easily.

Anyway, I think it still needs another week before it kicks off really well. The rain we got should help push more in but its not worth taking a day off work yet I dont think....

Heading out in the morning and want to put a fella on some fish.

Here is my current fishing report for those heading out.

We had lines in the water right around shipwreck. It was overcast and foggy so only ran down to abou 55 or so. Lots of fish. Everyone was catching fish. We caught fish, the guy in front of, to the side, and behind us caught fish. Fish were jumping all over. Two limes, 7 pinks, one coho. The silver wasn't shy about the pink hoochie...it bit on the way down at about 20 feet as was jumping before we even knew it was hooked up.

If you haven't gotten out...go. I think we are at the peak of the run.

All pinks for us today. 3 of us limited out in . They were pretty shallow early, got em from 20ft down to 45. when the afternoon came we finished up around 70ft to 80. They are thick as they can get right now. Think I'll go get some more tomorrow. All in area 9

possesion got us 2 nice silvers, and 3 pinks early. decided to switch things up when i saw the goldfinch bird land on my boat railing. went and tryed the bubble, 25-30 min later, one white meat, native 25# king, and then the other pink to finish the day.

I think the bird was a good luck charm!?

Went out on Saturday, had a great time.  Made a rookie mistake and did not check my downrigger cable prior to dropping the first ball and lost the ball and release on one side.  No Spare rigging so we ended up running 2 lines off of one rigger.  The amazing part is, not a single tangle which, as anyone who has fished with me before can attest, is a real miracle.

So running one rigger with two poles, we landed 4 pinks and one nice sliver between sunrise and 10 am.

We lost a good 5 fish, and something quite large - probably a king as it was shaking it's head pretty solid.  Broke the line at the hook.  As I read the regs, we can't keep kings so that's OK.

Launching at Muk is a real pain with only one dock in.  We plan to join the madness again next weekend but will probably go out of Everett.

Went out yesterday in the thick fog and got 4 pinks pretty quick trolling South to the ship wreck. Then ran over to Pt no Pt for the low tide and got a 10+ lb silver and a 5 lber. Finished the day with another pink. Had a downrigger tangle and almost lost the end of my finger trying to fix it.  :yike: Note to self, for safety sake unplug the rigger while working on it.  :bash: Had to run in for steri stitches and a good cleaning. The finger is sore, but still intact.

Damn dude! Be careful! Cool you got some nice fish but that sucks about the finger! Hope it heals nicely and soon for you. Keep it clean!

Longknife - that is a SWEET looking 'nook my friend! I love the color in the 1st pic - so chrome with that beautiful purple hue they have. All the salmon are so much more pretty in the salt - even the pinks. Although I think sockeye look pretty cool when the get the red spawning color going on.

Fished the south end of 8-2 today with 1,000 of my best friends!

Good times.  We picked up 3 pinks and 2 coho.   The bite moved deep after about 9:30 am.  We were doing well at 90 feet.  Blue and white spoon worked better than the usual pink buzz bomb.

Monday was pretty slow.  we landed one pink and no coho.  We screwed up netting two more pinks at the side of the boat (fiurst time netting fish for my buddy and he has not quite gotten it down!).

How long do the pinks stay in the area?  Thinking about going out again next weekend.

I would go out with your silvef gear. Larger flashers, ace high fly, squid, spoons, that kind of gear. Get out and start trolling on either side of the bar. Look for birds birds birds. If you find birds you will find bait. Here is some action from last season around this time. Pay no attention to the Techno. YouTube made me take off the Jimmy Buffett.

No problem. Don't be afraid to troll a bit faster, upwards of 3 or 3.5. I think it helps keep dogfish away and you get some good take downs. Silvers don't hit lightly.

Here is a little trick I've seen also. Get a small, like inch, inch and a half long green, white, or green/white hoochie. Put it like 8 inches behind your flasher. I've seen this work well for kings and silvers alike. I wouldn't have believed it with that short of a leader but it works.

You can also but a little spinner style corky, like for steelhead fishing, in front of your hoochie, give it some nice action and noise. I think if you look at the first fish in the video you'll see what I'm talking about.

Really? That small of a hoochie? I dont think I've ever seen one less than 2.5" long? Interesting. And by "corky spinner" you mean a spin n glo? I may have to try this setup! Also need to check out your vid. Thanks x2!
Title: Re: Can I get a humpy report, area 9
Post by: h20hunter on September 20, 2011, 08:30:33 AM
I'm telling you....it was a tiny hoochie. The skirt was trimmed short and the body was sliced up further. Very short leader. I've fished it and seen it work. Yep, a spin and glow. I think with silvers being aggresive feeders it gives them a little more actions to home in on. Try it.
Title: Re: Can I get a humpy report, area 9
Post by: trippledigitss on September 20, 2011, 08:36:40 AM
Oh OK - I thought you were talking about putting them half way up the leader or something - but you are saying thats it, an 8in leader with them at the end just above your hooks huh? I will try that. I just watched the video, pretty cool by the way, and it looks like a fairly small green spin n glo. Just a standard spin n glo with wings right, not the corky beads with the little molded swirly fins on the sides or whatever? Did you trim the squid hoochie or buy them that size? I love the look on that first fish's face - I swear I can see him thinking 'oh crap, this is bad!'  :chuckle:  Very good info man, thanks! I will put that setup on one rod and see how it compares.

Put that winged little bugger on the line so it sits on the nose of the hoochie. That was a good morning fishing. We ended with three and had a good trip. I just trim an existing hoochie down to size. I think it snaps around so much being so close to the flasher they really hammer it.
