Title: East Okanogan Special Permit GMU 204
Post by: AlpineMuley on August 12, 2011, 08:08:18 AM
My buddy got drawn for the whitie tag Nov 1-20.  We went over scouting last weekend and set up a trial cam just 4 miles East of Oroville.  We sent up the trial cam on the boarder of public to private land.  Just above the wheat fields and the river. We did see a couple of whitetail bucks, but mostly mule deer.   Any tips would be helpful.  What size can he expect for this time of season?
 :hello:

I had that tag last year,no i did not shoot one, just missed, anyhow most of the whitetail i seen where just outside the town of chesaw on the chesaw wildlife rec area. And I mean close to town, then minutes after daylight they vanish. Also hunt the last days of the permit season. Hunting whiteys is different than muleys..

Too bad you couldn't start feeding them before you came up to hunt. Have anybody close enough to do it ?

Well, about the feeding portion.  We did take in 150lbs of salt and 100lbs of corn.   The corn will not last long, but the salt will be there a long time.   :chuckle:   Thanks for the help!

What river is 4 miles east of Oroville? There are a lot of deer over there for sure. I have cams out in that general area from July on and get mostly mule deer until late summer early fall. Then once the apples are brought in we get pictures of decent whitetail bucks, have yet to get any monsters in 5 years though. You can look on here and see there are nice deer taken out of there each year, I would love to have that tag, just because it would be a fun hunt. I am not a rack hunter though. I would think a nice 4x4 would be attainable but like I said some great ones are taken each year. I know two guys who drew that tag as well so this will be the first year I will leave the cams up through November. I am thinking about alfalfa and corn for late season cam pictures just to see what is really there. I would expect your buddy will see some awesome mule deer if you go with him BRING A CAMERA! Tell your buddy good luck and post a few pictures of what he gets.

There are no rivers east of Oroville, but creeks, yes.
