Just a question. Can you call Elk in with a FOXPRO? I was reading the regs and on page 70 it states "It is illegal to hunt waterfowl, turkey, or deer with the use or aid of electronic calls and battery powered or other electronic devices as decoys."
Just a question no trying to stir the pot just wondering.

illegal
Show me where.

It's legal. Not legal for deer but legal for elk. Don't ask me why. :dunno:

Thanks just checking. Everyone has told me it's illegal because they "think" it is. It probably should be but, all i see is that it's legal. I may try is see how good my FOXPRO is for Elk. :dunno:

13. Using decoys and calls:
It is illegal to hunt waterfowl, turkey, or deer
with the use or aid of electronic calls and
battery powered or other electronic devices as
decoys
Had a guy pull up to a clear cut my dad and I were sitting in, waiting for the evening hunt, and blast an elk bugle over the PA in his white Jeep. No answer so he drove off. Dont be that guy.

Yes it perfectly legal!!

I am sorry for the false information. I knew it was legal, and don't know why but for some reason said illegal. Better think a little harder next time.
-
Dang I may just try that for elk, maybe a cougar or bear will show up :IBCOOL:

No big deal.

It makes not sense. Unless they mean elk because they are part of the deer family?
-
Yeah I have to wonder if the intent when they wrote the law was to also include elk, but it somehow got left out.
-
Either that or they did it so guys like us would wonder what the heck they are doing in Olympia.
-
Jayrod, if you need some elk sounds for that foxpro I've got quite a few. Also check out http://www.elkheaven.com/ (http://www.elkheaven.com/). They have some quality recordings that I have been wanting to get for a while now but keep putting it off.

Wow! This must be some sort of an overcite!!
I agree it probably should and was not meant to be legal but it is. I can really see how a solo hunter during the rut could use this as a huge advantage. Locate the animals, stash the FoxPro in the brush, set up down wind and bang, yo've all the sudden got all the advantages of hunting with a caller!!
-
Bowman it does work great when your solo.
-
Yeah they are great for solo hunting when you don't have a partner to set up behind you. Advancing that 50 or so yards past the call makes a huge difference. The big downside is that my Foxpro is over 5lbs with batteries so it's not really conducive to bivy style hunts. I cannot justify packing that much extra weight for a call unless it's just a day hike or relatively short distance. It has it's place but is by no means a cure all.
