Title: New powerbelts
Post by: carpsniperg2 on August 17, 2011, 01:13:33 PM
Just saw them why looking threw a cabelas magazine. They are called aerolites, they look interesting. They are making a 250 and 300g bullet. They look to be about 2.00 each. I am not a fan of powerbelts but like the design on these new ones. A nice sharp ballistic tip, where the old ones are more flat and round. The bullet looks to be a little smaller taper from the nose to the base. If I wasn't trying the tezs this year, I would consider trying them. Hard to beat the tmzs.

There is a little blurb about those on Field and Stream or Outdoor Life, can't remember which. Says they are the newest and greatest, better flight, terminal performance, etc.

Do they look good for a 48 twist barrel?

Best New Muzzleloader Bullet: Powerbelt Aerolite
The new AeroLite muzzleloader bullet is longer than other PowerBelt bullets; the design improves the aerodynamics so it shoots flatter and faster for improved accuracy at longer ranges. But the real difference is that it has a much larger hollow-point cavity, which maximizes expansion capability while reducing weight from the bullet’s core.

The polycarbonate tip is vital to getting proper expansion, and this uniquely tapered projectile will provide velocities of 1800 fps with a standard 100-grain charge. It can be used with magnum loads of up to 150 grains. The test team shot dozens of rounds, and accuracy was consistent and impressive with a variety of muzzleloaders. —B.F.

Manufacturer: Powerbelt Bullets (powerbeltbullets.com)
Price: $30-$32 for 15

If I remember correctly(Carp) longer=no good for slow twist.

Ha almost forgot about posting this. Those might be just fine in the slower twist rate josh. Most of the conicals shot threw the slower rate of twists are longer then modern sabots.

I've been wondering about these since I saw the ads for them. I think I'll try them out and see how the shoot.

I don't know what they are made of. I don't think they are solid lead. The lean pbs pancake like crazy. Those look like they have like a moly coating. Don't think they would do that to lead. It would not stick worth a darn.

Not much new to them.  They are very much like the original:   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mini%C3%A9_ball (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mini%C3%A9_ball)

Maybe a better gas seal, some modern materials but I doubt if the ballistics are much better.  It’s still a bore sized conical.

I've been looking into these..... I think they are made out of some type of tungsten of something...... A much denser metal but I'm not sure so don't quote me on this yet..... I might be switching from my copper coated ones this year.....
