Title: My boy and some pinks
Post by: h20hunter on August 21, 2011, 04:27:05 PM
So, yesterday I went out and took along D-Rock and RobcatBobcat. We did a bit of trolling and seemed to be hitting fish pretty regularly. So, this morning bright and early my boy was ready to go get his. He's been out a few times but at 5 he is still a little green. However, with the promise of a doughnut from the store and a backpack of toys were were good to go. We launched at Everett and enjoyed the typical humpy madness that brings out all the rookies. We launched, got the motors warmed up, geared squared away and motored out. We passed through the flotilla that is humpy madness and dropped lines about 7:30. We were trolling with riggers and usualy the usual, pink squid behind a white flasher. I was running one of my spinning rods and that was the first to go. I was looking forward but heard the twang of the rod coming up and the drag going out. We were up and on the rod and began to give it the 'ol two person heave. He's a bit small to handle the big rod but I was helping him. We got about 15 seconds out of that fish before Mr. Seal decided to end it for us. Well....there are more so we keep fishing. Second fish hits, line snaps. I'm thinking the seal nicked the line or something because it was gone. Now the boy is not happy. Yesterday I bring home a batch and now we've lost two. On we go. Third take down.....fish is gone before I get the rod out of the holder. Now we are an hour into it and the boy is getting restless. However....4th take down and I'm up clearning the rod, cranking up the rigger, killing the kicker, and keeping an eye out for the net. Now, I've caught hundreds of pink in the salt and the river but I was playing this one like I was Babe Winkelman himself. This was no humpy. This was a fathers redemption on the end of the line. My son already had the club in his hand. Soon I saw color, just after that I had the beast in the net. I swear the little guy about broke my hand the first time he took a swing at the fish. Well, once my hand was properly beaten he managed to graze the fish just enough. He wielded the club with the precision only a 5 year old can manage. We had one other missed fish and then picked up one more little hen. With two in the boat and the sun getting hotter I asked if we should keep going or head in. He said that two were probably pretty good and we should head in. Here are a few pics from the adventure.
