Just wondering what everyone's most valuable or favorite piece of hunting gear was that cost less than $100 (excluding first aid kit). I would have to say that for me it's my Cabelas Ultimax medium-weight hiking socks and liners. Since finding these socks my feet feel great after a full day of hiking in the mountains.
-
either a multi tool or a gps. i run a 79.99 Etrex
-
My matching set of rattling antler sheds I found. Free but absolutely unreplacable!
-
under armor base layer
-
Knife and parachute cord.
-
Mine is the little bundle that includes foil, knife, para cord, and a flint.
-
Shells for my rifle :twocents:

Throughout the day it changes for me! If I were out today my most valuable piece of gear would rotate like this.
-Baby wipes (hopefully)
-Bug net
-bullets
-knife
-game bags
-Snicker bar
-Flower's at Costco
-Baby wipes (hopefully)
-
Smartwool socks, $15ea. Patagonia and Smartwool baselayers, $50ea. Getting rid of that stinky, cold, good for nothin' UnderArmor = Priceless.
-
Knife, socks and a 99 cent bic lighter. :chuckle:

Beer also helps drown any sorrows when unsuccessful :P

Water filter

I would have to add licence and tags but getting them for under $100 is almost a thing of the past.
-
sleeping bag for my wife...doesnt cost much but sure helps me attain pert near everything else I need
-
poncho and gortex rain hat
-
I'm out. I always spend more than a $100 on everything I think is important. Sleeping pad over 100, sleeping bag over 100, tent over 100, GPS over 100, Bow...don't even get me started, headlight over 100, food over 100, water filter over 100, Spot messenger over 100, phone over 100, knife might be a bit under 100, boots over 100, pack over 100, jetboil was under...guess that's the one. :)
-
My Thermacell is one of the best purchases I've made for about $20.
-
3/4 of a tank of gas or battery for my camera.....its a tossup.....
-
Knife--Gerber Gator II 8)
-
Although not technically hunting gear..... it's the "no questions asked" hundred bucks my wife gets to spend while I am on my hunt...

Binoculars
-
Binoculars
:chuckle:
the last set of binos i had that were anywhere near 100 bucks busted and turned double vision.
-
Day pack itself, I use one of the Cabela's brand hydration daypacks, and virtually nothing else inside the pack is over $100, the pack itself was like $89 when I bought it 4 years ago. I do have a custom knife I had made in Ak that's cost me a couple hundred, but other than that, wyoming saw, all other knives, fire starter and para cord were all under $100.
-
Smoke in a bottle, hands down.
-
Smoke in a bottle
I would agree, and it could fall in the under $5 category.
-
in this order

Double use, monocular then. Always thinkin'.... :chuckle:
-
A good knife is a must for me. I would also say good quality broadheads, sabots or bulllets. After all they are what do the killing.
-
Half gallon of Pendeleton.
-
I think the best purchase of actual hunting gear I've purchased that was under $100 is the Havalon Piranta knife I got. I lost one so I bought another one, then I found the one I lost so I have 2 now. Priceless... I used to carry a Wyoming saw but was educated last year and no longer will carry one.
-
jackalope, why no more saw?
-
Smoke in a bottle
Small gorilla pod. Light, small and makes taking pics so much easier when using self timer.
-
my Buck Knife, my compass, and my metal match. Everything else is just frills.
-
jackalope, why no more saw?
Too heavy and don't need it. You can do everything with a good knife and some elbow grease where needed.
I'm gonna ask a potentially dumb question...
Whats smoke in a bottle?
:-[
-
smoke in a bottle - talc or something for wind direction
-
Got it...thanks.
Never heard it referred to as that.
-
Thanks for the answer jackalope. Makes sense.

silver lining guys suck :chuckle:
I think the only reason I keep those binos around is to show the new hunters they get what they pay for. lol.

It's a toss up. Tylenol P.M. or my green superfeet!
-
The most valuable piece of hunting gear is a good buddy to hunt with. we can all buy the necessities, compass, first aid kit, space blanket, etc. but the hunting buddy it the most important one of all.
-
It's a toss up. Tylenol P.M. or my green superfeet!
Greens and orange, thats a good one.
-
License and tags....oh wait it said under a hundred.
I would have to say my multi-tool.
-
i would say a headlamp (flashlight) pulling a deer out in the dark with no light....is miserable!
-
It's a toss up. Tylenol P.M. or my green superfeet!

Percocet. One bottle keeps my broken crippled behind humping hills for three elk seasons or more.
Other than that I'd have to say the new Camelback hydration system. The new Quick Link is a huge improvement IMO.

Case XX Changer knife. Comes in a leather belt carrier, and three extra blades that easily change. Rosewood handle about $70. Stag bone handle about $90. A real quality item. One of those things you're glad you purchased.
Bought a couple over the years as gifts for hunting buddies.

on of these: http://www.rei.com/product/407106/space-all-weather-blanket (http://www.rei.com/product/407106/space-all-weather-blanket)
$14.00. I pre-tie about 10 feet of paracord on each corner gromit and fold it up as shown then put the blanket inside about an 18 inch length cut off of an old sleeping pad and strap to my pack. comes in really handy for making a small shelter to sit under and the pad will get you off the wet cold ground. it could save your bacon if you get doused and cold out there. Also works by the fire and will reflect a lot of heat back towards you.
Here are a couple of shelters I've rigged up with it.
