Have been scouting a spot with cams and have been getting bucks during the day but over the last week only a few past by in the morning the rest were at night. I set up a blind on the 13th of aug. and blended it in good was wondering if anyone has any advice?

Would they move more night because of the new blind in the area? I have been scouting the spot since June and they have consistently come through at day light hours. Is there anything i could do between now and opening day besides hope they come by during shotting hours?

Yes i understand that, but since i put my blind up they have changed their patterns slightly is this a sign of too much human scent in the area or will they get more used to the blind come early season?

full moon and heat..... plus they read the regs and are gearing up for hunting season ;)

Ussually when you first put a blind out they appear finicky to it, but they will get used to it. Most of the time. The deer aren't moving at night because of your blind

If youre hunting BT's or MD than as soon as they strip their velvet they tend to be a lot more nocturnal.

Is there anything i could do to better my chances of seeing one of the whitetail bucks during daylight between now and the 1st,(adding trace salt or other food) or should i just be confident my hard work will pay off and hopefully they will come by in shooting hours?

Just heard a thing on the outdoor channel that said that the hardest time to predict deer movement is within 7 days of a full moon. Does tis give you your answer :chuckle:

Ok well hopefully thats some of the reason. Is it 7 days before and after the full moon?

alot of things mentioned above are all issues not to include the testosterone levels are rising as the antlers are hardening..then they become night movers, unless they are 3 1/2 yr old and younger bucks..u can get them consistently patterned in Sept and even in Oct if not bothered to much

x1, yes once their velvet is gone and their antlers arent tender then the big bucks become alot more nocturnal if completely nocturnal until they start thinkn with the dumbstick :chuckle:

Any ideas on what time to get in the blind and tips on not spooking the deer? I have a fairly clear path to the blind but never walked it at night.

2nd that. I don't see them after maybe 7-8 am. Too hot.

Out of the 8 bucks I was seeing nearly every night in July and first half of August.....only the 2 young guys are still around, because they are hangin with the does. All the legal bucks are no longer showing while its light enough to see. They are all hard horned, and I believe moved up the hill to their hidey holes.....From what I observed this year, they started growing a couple weeks early, shed velvet a couple weeks early, and may even rut a bit early this year. Two weeks ago, I saw two of the big guys horn to horn shoving each other around, so Im sure they are scattered out to be alone and wait.....I dont put much stock in what they do in July and early August having anything to do with what they do come Sept. 1st, near here anyway. :twocents:

you do not want to walk thru a bedding area on your way to your blind as you dont want to have the wind blowing to a bedding area also. Entry in and OUT are very important.. u can get away with the first time in,but if you want to hunt it again you have to be careful with both. The element of surprise is key on big bucks

if you have a clear path to your stand you can wait till its light and hunt your way to your stand, if that doesnt sound like your cup of tea then you should be on stand about 45 minutes before shootn light, one of the big tricks id to keep your butt in the stand all day and especially between 10 and 2 and of course the last 15 minutes of shootn light, you wont see much for big bucks at this point in the summer unless you got a camera that can take those pictures at night but if your stand is in a good spot you will see more deer out of it than if you were tryimg to still hunt.. good luck to ya

I hunt over in the Chiwawa/Entiat areas where weather plays a huge role in the early season. Two weeks before every season, I'm constantly checking the weather and the moon phase and literally praying for something good to happen. The first year I ever hunted over there, it snowed, rained, stayed cloudy the whole weekend, and we saw a ton of a deer and took 3 muleys in two days. For the next 3 or 4 years, it was as sunny and warm as a Western Washington summer day for the entirety of the rifle season and we saw very little activity. On the years when the moon was full, deer movement seemed to be at a standstill. I can only imagine they were out dancing the night away while we slept. The last two years, however, we've had a couple days where it rained, and I've taken two nice bucks. If you get that cloud cover going, the deer will be out for a lot longer in the mornings and a little bit earlier in the evenings. I killed last year's buck the morning after a good rain at about 9 in the morning. The year before, I killed my buck at 3 in the afternoon and it had been raining pretty hard for the last couple days. :twocents:
