As I gear up for early goose :IBCOOL: I was going through my inventory of shells. Realizing that last year I made a change from steel to HEVI-Shot I remembered the absolute best waterfowl season ever! The load I shot was HEVI-Metal 3-inch #2.
I couldn't believe the amount of birds hitting the water. After some research I found that HEVI-Shot has blended normal HEVI-Shot/HEVI-Metal to produce one bad a$$ shotshell.
Also, I remember looking at the price of regular HEVI-Shot and kind of cringing. Then I found HEVI-Metal and for the same price of 10 HEVI-Shot shells I could get 25 HEVI-Metal shells. What I found was (compared to Kent Fasteel) I was hammering WAY more birds and putting them down for good. Quality over quantity.
IF you get a chance, look at some HEVI-Metal!

Hevi Shot used to make the Hevi-Steel. It was discontinued and they started producing Hevi-Steel which is filled half with Hevi-Shot and then half with steel. I shot a few cases of it last year and it does work good. If you ever see a sale, do some price checks and buy a case at a time or more, as it is pricey. I ended up picking my Hevi-Metal up for $15 per box for 3", #2 shot.
