Title: Looking for some input
Post by: jmx369 on August 28, 2011, 05:46:24 AM
I have a cousin visiting from out of state and he would really like to get out and enjoy the great Pacific Northwest and harvest a bear.(Yes he bought an outrageously expensive non-resident tag) I haven't hunted bear for several years now and I don't know where to go anymore. The places I used to go have been washed out so I am looking for some input as to where I might take my cousin to have an opportunity to at least see some bears. I live in Bellingham and I was hoping to go up to the Mt. Baker area. If there is anyone that would be willing to share their knowledge of this area with me I would greatly appreciate it. I am not looking for someone's honey hole, I just want my cousin to have an opportunity after spending so much for a bear tag.

hmmm...thats a tough one. Specificly because your cousin is in the same boat as the rest of us. We would all like to nab a bear our first time out. Unfortunately it takes time, money in gas and exploration and gaining knowledge of lcal habbits. I don't know the Baker area all that well when it comes to hunting, just skiing and hiking. I say just take your cousin down some old gated logging roads in the area. Walk in as far as you can and  be patient. There are bears in the mountains everywhere.

For me...the thrill of the chase is the good time. If you get one its just icing on the cake.... :twocents:

Head up mosquito lake rd. Left on north fork. Turns into gravel rd. couple miles in follow main rd. to the big Y at 2.5 miles in on the gravel. Keep right and head up. Lots of nice clearings up there and surprisingly not that many people.

At least, there didn't used to be.  :chuckle:

I'm all for helping a fellow hunter, but come on people...do we have to post everything out in the open?

The internet KILLS honey holes and wheelin' trails.  :'(
