Title: GRAYBACK PEMIT
Post by: LittleJohn on August 29, 2011, 02:01:17 PM
Hey Guys, I drew a permit for the first time this year. Just wanting to see some pics of bucks taken in area. I moved to Montana in June and am going in blind. I am not going to get to scout at all. I am going to have 4 days to hunt due to my new job. I am going to hunt my A$$ off and have a great time regardless.

Any advice on the area would be great. I got some info from a friend and have a plan to start with. Not looking for any info on where to go, just anyones advice on the area in general.

Thanks allot, John

Good luck to everyone this season.

Lots of area to hunt. Cats keep a lot of deer on the move and it can bs a very hard hunt depending on weather and deer movement. There is some dandy bucks that are taken each year. You might try a search on here seems like there has been a thread for that permit before. Good luck.

IF you get permission to hunt up on the High Prarie near shilling road, your in for a good time. One of Tracy Zollers guides has control over blacktail road, and I can tell you there are some good bucks on the breaks..and they come out into the alphapha fields. The owners of the old shilling farm house have the best deer..and biggest bucks..but good luck getting to hunt there.

Is that a summer hunt or late? Late season is KILLER. The summer you will see most of your action in the fields, but when it starts to snow..the game is on big time. You can also find some good stuff on grayback mountain in the late season when the migrate some. You can treestand up in a pine tree..inside the oak draws..near the cattle like deer trails..and score also. Its all depending on the snow however.

Good luck. Its not as good as it used to be..not even close...like the 90's...but last year I seen a few big shooters...on other peoples property..haha.

That tag is pretty awesome.  No sure thing but its a really good tag. Theres a lot of good places to go during that hunt.  If i was you I wouldnt get to excited till areount the 10-15th, thats when things usually heat up.  I had the late tag in 01 and then it was only 4 days 15th-18th.  That long of a season really changes the game.  If you need some good info hit me up, I live in the area and know that unit really well.  Were up in the mtns from around the 25th of septmeber to the 1st of december most days...
