hello all,
I'm active duty and turns out I have to go away really soon. i have my licence but i cannot seem to find any place that has openings for the Range Evaluation in a short amount of time due to the fact that i was gone for awhile. i will be here for the deer season but do i need to get Range Evaluated first? is there any way around this so i can hunt in GMU 627,633. I live in Kitsap county
I have been reading and i cant seem to find that these areas (627,633) are good for deer. the reason i choose these GMU is that they are close to where i live. without giving away some honey holes can some one tell me if it is even worth going in these area or finding another GMU to hunt in?

Memory is foggy here, but can you still take the paperwork from small arms qualification and use as a substitute?
As for areas over there, quite a bit is private land in the northere part. A lot of that private stuff was ~20 acres and in restricted areas. You could head over to Tahuya State Forest. A few guys I used to work with would head over there after work (had to go home first, couldn't have anything in the car on base). There are a few roads that zigzag through there. I scouted around in those areas and there was sign and lots of water in there--panther lake, tiger lake, etc. Seemed like there were lots of houses being built in and around that area, so not sure what is huntable anymore. I know there are some really huge deer in 627, problem was the ones I saw were on base near the piers.

Dewatto rd might be a good place to go driving around as well.

Seems every year you hear about a bruiser coming out of there, but a lot of it's reprod and extremely brushy. That's why they get so big though!

Ive seen some goods ones killed in Dewatto. Ive killed a good one. Hunt the last week in October. The thicker the better. Bucks and does stay in the tall thick reprod and sometimes do not come out. Rut time is the key. PM me if you have questions.

First off i wanted to say thanks alot for your service to your country. If you are looking for a decent place to go just go out old belfair highway till you come to bear creek dewatto road. once on bear creek dewatto you go about 2 miles maybe then go right onto tiger-mission road. park at the first gate you come to on your right. there is miles of road to walk back there and there are deer , bear , and cougar back in there. Good luck.
