Title: Bear Greeting
Post by: Timber on July 01, 2007, 05:54:09 PM
Found these two bears this morning. I was watching the black bear, when the chocolate bear showed up and walked up to the black bear, then continued to feed near it, then followed it into the timber. The chocolate bear is too big to be a cub. I wonder if they are a boar and sow.

AWESOME PICTURE!

I think it is about breeding season for bears.....isn't it?
I know I've run into several boar/sow combos this time of year, including one that just about got Idabooner and I thumped and bumped and eaten.  We got between a strawberry blonde bear which I had never seen before color wise and a blackie and he wasn't real happy about it.  Real good situation with a pack string of mules and two saddle broncs.

PS...is that your moose mount as your avatar?  You need to post a full size pic in the moose mount thread in taxidermy.  I'd like to see it.  Again, that is a really cool bear picture.

Great pic. I think you are right about them being a boar and sow. She (chocolate) has a short but thick looking neck and he (blackie) is long and fairly bulky.

Thanks for sharing.

Here are some pictures of them while they were feeding. They are looking at me because they hear my shutter going off.

Great pictures, it really demonstrates the difference in conformation that Billy pointed out.

That is a beautiful pic. That choco cinnamon bear would look great next to the black one on the wall at my place.

I hope they went and made interacial babies.

Thats an awesome day in the woods when you get to watch or see something like that.  You definately have some of the coolest bear photos I have seen.  I watched 5 bears do that one day, feeding along in the sunflowers.  All 5 were a different color.  Pretty cool stuff.  I wish I had the camera, though I wasn't near as close as you are to these  guys.  Once again...Top notch photos (https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fbestsmileys.com%2Fthumbs%2F3.gif&hash=f2aedba5dab2d8eac63675932785c0d57d9b608d)

Thanks boneaddict.
Bears are probably my favorite animal to photograph. For one, at certain times of the year they are easy to find (that doesn't mean the hike to them will be easy). Second, as long as you pay attention to the wind and don't make much noise you can get right in on them.
By the way, these are westside bears, GMU 418.

Her is a bear I saw last night just before dark in the same area as the other two. I've now seen a decent size black bear in this spot all 4 times I've gone up there in the last 8 days. It could be the same bear, it's hard to tell for sure. If he hangs around until the opener, I've got some friends that will be up there waiting for him.
