who's gonna post the first buck of the season?
i know 90% of you archery guys are still awake, trying your hardest to catch a few house of sleep.
good luck tomorrow

Better question who will post the first monster...getting a little one is easy
-
yea, i was gonna post another topic asking who will kill the biggest buck this year.
biggest mulie, blacktail and whitetail.
i know im gonna be chasing a very big 5x5 blacktail that i missed last year. i have seen him 3 times scouting this year and he is now a 5x6 and put on about 10" inches. if he wasnt on hood canal i would say it was a damn mulie :yike:
-
I'll post the first doe. :chuckle: 10 minutes. Killing time on the phone internet.
-
I think I'll pay my bills first, then go hunting. Work before play.

Whether it is a "Monster" is in the eyes of the beholder. This site has so many "size" freaks, it gets kinda old.

:yeah:X2
I like seeing big old bucks get killed, and I like killing them. But I agree, too much emphasis on what "everyone else" thinks should be killed.

Got within 20 yards of a doe 3 times and a buck once. Couldn't get them to clear the brush for a shot though. Now I have to pack up the kitchen and hopefully get back out tonight.
-
I'm hoping alwinearcher is the first with that pig whitey!!!
-
Came home to get ready for elk camp, might go out tonight again. Seen five deer three fawns and two shooter does. 85 yards from the first and 135 from the second. I will post the first deer that gives me a shot not a fawn the first mature deer. It will be a trophy for me doe buck whatever i love to archery hunt. Today is like christmas.

I passed on a 3x3 muley with eye guatds first thing this morning at 40 yards. Couple hours later came over a little edge and there was a 4x4 bedded by some rocks in the shade, got to 30 yards and decided he wasn't what I wanted.
Ended up shooting 4 grouse and saw 3 bull elk and was in bow range of a few cows. Didn't hear any bugles.

I know who it won't be....this guy. Between work, wedding and family I'll be lucky to be out next Thursday or Friday

Saw as many elk as I did deer this morning. :IBCOOL: didn't really care about today. I'm waiting for tuesday

Every September 1st I get more and more pissed off that they moved Bear opener from Aug 1st. I'm hunting bear tomorrow, if I can find room in the rig with all of my kids crap, I'll toss in the bow. That way if there is anything decent at my in-laws I can try to stick it.
-
here is what I saw at first light. These two were 30 yards away and could care that we were there. The buck in velvet ended up with all the velvet gone after playing around with the smaller two point. Me and my son got out there early. My son had a blast with seeing all the deer. Saw a nice 3x4 but couldn't get a shot.

Very cool video huntergreg! Its even better that you had your son with you and he got to see that. That right there is the kind of stuff that gets kids hooked on hunting and being outside. A lot of people get stuck on the killing portion of it, but that right there is the stuff that keeps me coming back. Nice work!
-
Well does Oregon Count :) we shot two mulies

Nice Video! It is wonderful to see that your son was with you!

well :'( dad took one for the team, got set up at 0500 first doe came in at 515 at 0600 in walks the resident monster who is now a 8x8( I think that rack builder I dumped this spring must be working) who decides he will stop and sniff around for 5+ mins at 15 yards, the whole time in my head I am trying to figure out the cost of having his rack freeze dried so it isnt a waste of such a huge rack. Drew back the mathews put the 20 pin on him, then cried as I slowly rode the arrow forward remembering I told myself I would only take a doe this year to improve the kids odds of dropping one of the resident bucks. The next doe came out at 0700 and caught a arrow after making me sit at full draw for five minutes for a shot on her.I'll post a pick after I transfer it from the phone.
-
Wow, that's some self control there. Those kids are pretty lucky. Hopefully they'll get a crack at that big boy.
Don't know if I could've passed on one like that.

WOW Have to commend you on that one

Passed on a 115-120 blacktail yesterday morning. Man was that a tough one to let go as I do not have a p&Y mounted in velvet yet. But, that darned Late Chiwawa permit in my pocket was screaming too loud. I made a goal of 130 BT or late Chiwawa. Hope that wasn't too big a mistake. Guess I won't find out until Dec 9th.
-
This is what I am saying .....all these months of trail cams and no one has produced yet ....seems these deer know when September 1 st comes and split :chuckle: :dunno:

good ole dad. never sises to amaze me on how pops would rather let a trophy go to try to find me to take the shot then take it himself, even when i try to tell him i have many more good years of hunting and his is running out. its moments like this that show how much love you have for your family. i hope that when i have children i too can be just as good a dad as my dad was to me and seems your are to your kids. i commend you as well.
-
sorry about the neck, left the phone in the truck and I bleed them asap, thanks for the good words about passing on the monster. I just hope its not in vein and he shows up when one of the kids are out.
-
It's hard to bleed a deer whose heart has already stopped....
Nice doe, congrats on some venison and good luck for your son.
