Title: Forks area elk update.
Post by: wt on September 09, 2011, 10:28:25 PM
Anyone hunting the Forks area, Clear water, Sol Duc, Pysht? I was in the Sol Duc for the first two days of season and only saw one small group, and that was at 830pm. Heard a little bugling but it was faint so I couldn't tell if it was a hunter or a bull. I spoke with 5 0r 6 other guys and they hadn't seen much either. Any body finding them in these areas, or hearing any bugling, or has it been pretty quite for you as well?  Any info is good info. Lots of Luck.

Have you seen any signs posted about fire danger in the area? Its usually a lot cooler there so hopefully it stays open :dunno: Don't know if you want to say, but are you on national forest land? I ask because I hunted there last year and am supposed to head up there tomorrow but don't want to deal with unexpected closures. Thanks!

Yeah, it's dry and crunchy.  If you can get to the cool, shady wallows it might be a little quieter for stalking.  There are some swampy creek areas that run through 602 in between some of the cuts.

archerE, when I left Thursday, the arrow was on High fire danger, it has five levels I think: low, moderate, high, very high, and one more that I can't remember. I'm not sure what it is currently.  Thanks for the input from you other guys out there. I'll be going back out later this week, I'll be hitting the deep spots, and areas with water.  Good luck to the elk getters!

Thanks for the info. I am headed that way(602) in the morning. Checked the weather forecast for the week there. Starting on Wed. it should stay below 70degrees  That sounds alittle better. If any of you see my big green ford on 38" tires :hello: It will be nice to talk to someone since I am hunting alone this year.
