Just came back from a week in the northeast corner and the weather couldn't be worse. Didn't see an elk or hear a bugle! when the locals are also going over Hell and gone, and bugling at three o'clock in the morning near camp. You know the hunting is not good! I am in to elk every year except for this year. Anyone hunting the selkirks have any luck/ hear bugling? I got photos on my cameras @ 330am and midnight. I'll post some pics

Both these bulls were coming through my area at night and rubs were everywhere. Just couldn't get a sound out of them.

This is a clearer image.

Maybe theyr'e finding out that bugling attracts Wolves. Keep quiet and stay alive!

My brother and I were walking to our spot up in 113 Sunday evening and for a while the road runs next to a creek bed with a small patch of timber surrounding it when we heard a very strange, short squeal of a bugle it sounded like someone just learning how to call. We froze and ducked behind the thimble berries waiting to hear movement. We did so I let out a short cow call, he made the same noise again and was moving toward the tree line about 45 yards and slightly downhill from us. I was just waiting for him to break the tree line and he never did I called a few more times over the course of about an hour I think I drove him off :bash: also the wind was going right toward him. Eventually something spooked him off and we heard him crash through the opposite side of the creek bed. But it was like you said the elk were very quiet otherwise.

Ya that's irritating! We couldn't find an archer that snuck in on an elk bugling, most were hunters sounding good ;) anyone else having the same issues with high 80s low 90s??!?

Mike, those are some nice bulls. Give up the bugle and just try some cow calling. After my experience, a Montana elk decoy would also be a recommendation. Good luck buddy.

Just throw some cow calls...the bulls are talking a little bit more now...not much but my cousins and them were just up there for the past few days...herd 3 bulls bugling back and forth but would not come in....they tried closing the distance but it was getting too hot....one of my cousins shot a 6x6 up there bedded down at 38 yrds on Tuesday morning but did not get any hands on....he hit a small tree right in front of the bull from the kill zone...

just asprinkle of rain this morning & cooled off nice this evening, hoping they start talking more, good luck people

Elk is moving his head to cause the illusion..Definitely a pretty nice bull.
