Title: Entiat hunt/Where can i find a good doe?
Post by: bagmNtagm on September 16, 2011, 01:14:02 AM
So its been a bit of a rough year, went to Entiat Wa to go hunt some mule deer and try to get me my first doe or maybe even a buck if i am lucky. Well it was really hot out above 90 degrees easy, and the 1st day we didnt see much until about 10:30 am. We got tired of not seeing deer pack up everything and started our decent down and all the sudden 5 does pop right out on the side of the hill no more than 40 yards, of course my bow was in the back and by the time i had got it the deer were about 200 yards away... My brother Austin ( muleyslayer#1) and I started to run up and down these mountains for about an hour in the heat and then the deer just were to far and to mobile. I had also gotten so tired and my body had turned a very dark red head to toe and started vomiting, pretty much was a few minutes from a heat stroke, so we had to leave early...did a few more hunts with no luck just too hot and too much bee's...So what should i do and maybe should i try more hunts for blacktail on the west side? any info will help :dunno:

Stay longer. Hunt slower. Stay hydrated. Use binoculars. Locate deer. Find one deer to hunt. Hunt this one deer. Plan to spend all day to get it. Get out of the truck.

Like IceMan Said . But do you really want to kill a doe ? in the past few years our deer numbers have dropped , due to lice and predation . The more breeding does we have the better off we are . If you want to shoot a doe then the late whitetail hunt would be a good bet and they eat better anyway.ood luck staying healthy and dont mess around heat stroke seems to repeat itself easyier the second time .

I really agree with the hunt slower part. I was full of hell when I first started hunting as a kid and was always wanting to move faster than was prudent. I caused my dad a lot of frustration I'm sure. I have taught two buddies how to hunt since and will be taking my brother in law for his first hunt this modern firearm deer season. The biggest thing they had a hard time with is slowing down and making a stalk in a well thought out and carefully executed fashion. Plenty of experienced hunters are guilty of this as well.

I told my buddies all the same thing. If you go fast you will miss deer and the deer will notice you. If you go slower the deer will miss you and you will notice them. Nothing comes quickly and easily when hunting, that's why I love it.

One would be hard pressed not to be able to shoot a doe up the Entiat? We had does eating sunflower seeds in camp up the Entiat last weekend.

Yeah i agree i dont like to go so fast that you wear your self out i definitly learned my lesson. Going to do some elk hunting tomorrow and just try to take it slow, what my dad tells me to do is go out by yourself take it slow  a few steps at a time and always stop look and listen. Hopefully tomorrow is succesful even seeing and stalking the animals is good enough for me. Thanks everybody i appreciate the helping advice good luck to the other hunters this season

i have hunted the entiat alot, being that i grew up across the river in orondo. the one thing i learned as far as bow hunting up there find a good knob to sit on and glass and if that dont pan out then start walking the roads with the deeper ditches along them. that and as of the last few years make sure you tuck in your shirt and butterfly your pants into your boots as the ticks have just been hellacious.

definitely hunt slower and drink more water, ive been in your shoes with the whole heat stroke thing and it sucks something fierce, buddy of mine thought i was trying to call in a squatch during a bear hunt couple years ago as i dry heaved for 30 some minutes as a result of heat stroke.
