Title: Can't finish....
Post by: D360 on September 17, 2011, 02:31:44 PM
Just spent 4hrs trying to get a shot on a cow that was separated from the herd and lost. the whole time we were 100-10yds apart. mew-ing back and forth, I got a shot at her right at the start, thought she looked to be 30yds away (Did NOT use fancy expensive range finder I Just bought) shot and stuck the tree right behind her. windage was perfect, elevation was not. never got a clear shot at her again.... through out the whole time of playing cat and mouse with her I had to to take a leak and was sure that I was going to wet myself and she had gone a little ways away but I could still hear her so I decided I could do my business and get back to calling her. while in mid stream I look over my shoulder and she is 20yds (double checked with the range finder afterwards) down the road feeding across and does not notice me. she walks into the timber and is gone. never heard, saw from her again. Tomorrow is the last day of the season...

Day 2, 20 yards 5X or 6X bugling his head off. Day 3, 10-12 yards from a 4X got a shot at 30 yards and smacked a log I didnt see. Day 4, 5X4 we got a shot at 3 yards through brush but the deflection caused a flesh wound. Day 6, 60 yards from a 5X satellite but no shot.

Talk about not being able to finish.

I had 3 bulls on 3 different days be close enough to blow my eardrums out. Two of the times it was just before shooting light while sitting in my stand. The other time I had a cow feeding below the stand at 14 yards and all of a sudden she looked back and jumped aside...seconds later a bull chuckled within 20 yards of me but out of sight. All three bulls never came into view...how frustrating.

Yea I've been on elk all season just haven't been able to seal the deal. but I would rather be around them and not get anything than not see anything at all, must be doing something right.... or lucky. either way works for me.
