I went to the river and a dude was there casting at 5:00 down river. Everone else is casting at 2:00 up river for the drift. He got twisted up in my line, got pissed off cut his line off mine and pouted on a log behind me. He mended his line and went way above me and got his stuff tangled with someone else. Got pissed off and sat back on the log saying he could not fish and everyone is F'ed up. I loose all my crap and walk to shore and I made the comment about casting at 2:00 and waiting for the person below you to cast first then you cast after him.
He told me he has been fishing on the Puyallup for two weeks and knows what he is doing. Called me a cracker under his breath. I just shut up and finished up my re-rigging and went back to fishing.
I have never been called a cracker before. I guess there is a first for everything. Still had a good time... I love driving 5 min and I am in the water fishing.
-
thats funny...my sisters and brother we call each other cracker and *censored* all the time :chuckle: :chuckle: we are all white as can be and my sister likes to say too many damn *censored*'s in here ....its an old 80's reference but its funny.....
yeah its special that racial slurs are still used by all races against each other, bummer the fishing there is so screwed up sort of takes the fun out of it... so what ethnicity was the purveyor of such epithets?
-
I still had fun... I cough three fish but I have never been called a cracker. That really made me laugh.

Was he a cracker, hick, juke or *censored* himself?

It always suprises me that racial slurs are really only socially acceptable aimed at one particular race. I guess racism only goes one way in todays overly politcally correct society. Im glad you were the one who showed intellegence, and self control in the face of such utter ignorance.

see you have the right attitude .... I've been called names before....only time it was a big deal was when it was my own mother but otherwise... whatever.... the more important question is did you land any fish?
-
I would have laughed out loud and said ThANKYOU! with a big cheese eating smile! That would have really burned him up. :chuckle:
-
It may not be racily motivated, but then again , on the river the act of knocking somebody's fish of the line is refered to as crackering the fish. Maybe he was acusing instead of profiling. Just say'n :dunno:, maybe he was saying he lost his fish because of some "cracker".

My son (white) has black, hispanic, Asian and (of course) white friends of both genders in 8th grade. They include a variety of christian faiths, catholic, jewish, agnostic and hindu. They all joke "inappropriately" with each other in a completely friendly fashion using racist, sexist, religious and other stereotypes - of each other, not anonymous groups. To me, that beats the heck out of politically correct, fakely polite behavior.
None of these kids actually gives a rat's ass what color any of their friends are, and you can really see that by the way they are completely uninhibited in their socially incorrect teasing. As far as I am concerned, they are the first truly unracist social group I've experienced, they are totally comfortable to the point they don't see any need to pretend they are all cast from the same mold.
Sorry to thread jack, I'm just a redneck cracker I guess.
-
The dude looked like a 18 to 20 year that was black. If I was black you know what he would have called me then...
You know it really does not bother me other then I thought it was pretty funny as I have never been called a cracker.

Cracker also means a new or inexperienced fisherman.

I would bet you 10 to one odds, that is not how the young man was using the term.
-
Cracker is what Black people call White people down in the south. Was called cracker plenty of times when I was living in GA going to college. :chuckle:
-
I'll tell you of all the racial slurs there are out there I'm most proud to be called a "cracker" over any other of them.

Take it from someone who has been on the fishing boards for years!

he was the cracker.
fishing cracker is what you call that person that just experienced that loud cracking of line when snagged up on a rock, log or unintentional long line releasing of a fish with hook and gear still stuck in its face. lol
-
If you are gettin called a cracker on the puke you are filling some mighty big shoes! :chuckle: :P

I can't believe it took that many posts for someone to point that out! That was my first thought, it's what we always say when one someone does something dumb (including myself) is that they just "crackered" that fish off like it was their first day on the water!
-
I guess I would have asked.....does that pertain to the sterotypicality of my socioeconomic superiority, or are you professing to be a poor fisherman?
-
Cracker is what Cracker does......Proud of my Cracker status however it's interpreted..... :chuckle:
-
cracker is a silly name. however its intended.
they should call it nigging. cause nigging and rigging rhyme.
then you could say........"Hey man.......your nigging my rigging...you damn cracker!!!!!"
-
I still think its kinda ridiculous ....however its was intended ..... who knew it meant that about a fishing person...duuuuude I am so behind the times on slang epithets ...course I still say duuuude and awesome so that kinda says a thing or two :chuckle: :chuckle: and I cant even say the N word it wont come out of my mouth ....was ingrained in me to be the most profane word a person could say and would of invoked the wrath of my mother she woulda slapped my mouth off my face if I said that word :yike:

-
I've never been called that but I have been called a lot worse. :chuckle:
