has anyone ever hunted elk up in that area. this is my first year elk hunting and saw they allow any elk and was wondering if it is a good spot to hunt? :dunno:
-
Nope. Very few elk. You won't have to worry about competition though.
-
well i was wondering cause it is any elk do i have a good chance i mean im not going for a big trophy bull i would be happy with anyone cause i only want it for the meat and then the hoove so i can make money to go hunting next year
-
It is any elk, well because there are not any elk, every elk killed in 204 i would guess is killed on private property by locals or people with permission..i know of 3 elk killed on one piece of property on the same morning, watched by locals and the weather worked in thier favor that morning, 9 elk killed in 204 by modern hunters and 1 by archery....for the sake of argument there are no elk in 204, just passer by's....
-
ok well thanks for the heads up lol
-
Never seen an elk there in the dozen or so trips I've been in the area. I would look farther east.
-
We have a cabin, real close to the lake. We were up there last week Archery hunting for deer. Saw 21 elk with 3 bulls. All on private property, they stayed there the whole week.
-
ok thanks cause my taxidermist said that he is still doing 4 big bulls that are in the 320" range that were pulled out of there last year all on public land. roughly how much public land is up there?
-
Drive up there and find out.
-
I have seen more moose than Elk in that area :twocents:

Not to sound like a d*ck, but after reading about your bear hunting debacle you have absolutely no idea what you're in for now. Bears are tough, yes, but everything about elk hunting is at least twice as hard. :twocents:
Just keep this in mind and make sure you ARE prepared this time. No excuses, you'll be tarred and feathered if you come on here telling everyone you lost a big bull but you can't get out because you wake up at 11:00.
Start preparing EVERYTHING now and get out there and smack a big one!!! Good luck to ya man

I'm calling bullsh*t on that. :twocents:

A lot of public land. Okanogan National Forest comes to mind....

I know people that live up there and they do see them. Few and far between, but, you might be the one to get one. I think I know the rancher that owns the " private land " they are on. The locals come first if you know what I mean.
-
Go to the entiat ;)
-
yea and i respect that locals come first  and are there elk up the entiat that is where i hunt deer and i have never seen one up there?
-
I think someone is pulling your leg...either the taxi or the hunters are feeding someone a line of crap. But you are still young and bound to believe everything you hear...so good luck soldier. But I know for a fact I wouldn't waste a minute of my time elk hunting up in that area. Now deer hunting is a whole different topic.
-
yea i changed my spot now im thinking clockum or just go with my grandparents cause on opening morning is the day i get my lisence back so i can go anywhere and what unit is the clockum? i cant seem to find it in the reg book
-
Are you for real? Try Gmus 328 & 329. There are a few elk in Okanogan county but they are hard to find. Even the locals have trouble finding them. Better have a good rig, the roads in the Colockum are pretty rough. Then you'll need to take a walk to get away from all the people.
-
What happened to your licesnse?
-
i lost my drivers lisence for 6 months
-
Must have misplaced it huh.......
-
now i hit black ice coming home last winter and rolled my moms car and i still had my intermediate lisence so they suspended it till im 18

That WAS funny. How do you do that? :chuckle:
-
Drive to E.Wenatchee, cross the bridge into Wenatchee, hang a left and head up towards Mission ridge, hang a left at the basin loop road. Hang a right onto the upper basin loop road( Black Lake ) and start humping. You have from there to west bar to kill a elk and plenty of them. That's the closest your going to find elk to Chelan.
-
ty that helped me out now i just need to get up there and start scouting
-
Don't you need a Discovery Pass too ? Predator Pro and I were up there in August bearing hunting and I'm sure I saw that you need one ?
-
i really hate that discover pass its just another thing for them to take our money
