Was planning on taking my 11 and 12 year old to the Selkirk unit for this hunt. I was wondering how many people hunt that unit? How much hunting pressure is there? Any thoughts would be appreciated

Its pretty thick and the numbers are not as good as 117 or 121 :twocents:

:yeah:
You would be better off trying to secure permission on private land in surrounding units or focusing your efforts in 117/121. There are deer there but not the density as further west

Benhuntin, when you say thick do you mean there are lots of people or are you saying the area terrain and landscape is thick? I know it's brushy. I've hunted the area just not during rifle season and was wondering about the amount of pressure it gets. Thanks for your input.

just remember that even for youth, 117/121 are 4-point minimum for whitetail. I think you should go ahead and stick with your plan and go 113 as it is any deer for youth. I would contact a few landowners and try to secure permission for a doe in the lowland farms/ranches.

I'd stick with unit 113. I have never encountered much hunting pressure and I typically see 5-10 deer day. I've had my best results in areas that are inaccessible to vehicles. Use the internet to identify potential areas on the map. My advice is to hunt until the last moments of legal shooting light. I always bring a light because I know I'll be walking out in the dark.

do you have a map of 113? what road do you plan on going up? I could point you to a spot to take the kids.

I tend to notice folks coming out of the hills while I'm going up for a last minute look. most don't stay until last light. animals aren't rocket scientists but can figure that much out.

Yeah. I have a map. I've been that way a few times just not during modern deer season. If you'd like to point me to a couple spots I'd certainly listen but don't feel like you have to do that. If you Shoot me a message about it that would be great. Thanks guys!!
