Beautiful bull. Way to get it done and nice shot as well. Trying to figure out which side of the highway you were on. North or south. I like to play the GMU guessing game. I'm gonna guess southside. :chuckle:

so after a bad day yesterday fighting with two many hunters, and one who was so pissed off he shot over my head towards a bull on the hill when he didn't have a bull tag... long story...
I starter my walk before daylight this morning down a handicap access road listening to bugles for the first half mile, then all of a sudden here comes a truck barreling off the hill onto the handicap road and my mood instantly changed. I did find out that has was there with the correct permit so I can't complain to much and he was a pretty nice guy.
I started out the ridge towards the bugling and got with 200 yards or so and started calling, pretty soon I was a hundred yards away from this bull, all he had to do was step out from behind some trees. then all of a sudden everything went quiet and he was gone. I got my stuff together and went back after him, the path he was taking was about 200 yards above an old skid trail so I was just paralleling him nice and quiet.
I got to a point where I was 100 yards away and all he had to do was go 20 yards forward into a clearing, when "Bang" a shot went off and the elk took off up the hill.... I was so frustrated at this point I was ready to call it a day and just started walking away.
Next thing I know I look up and the elk were running right next to me so I stopped and got set up, 30 yards away spike, cow, spike, cow, cow, cow, raghorn... and so forth... every elk around except the bull I wanted. Then I saw him about 250 yards above me and realized I had to have this bull!!!
We kept up with each other, all the while I was cow calling and he was bugling every 50 yards or so. I finally caught up to them and about 15 cows busted out across an open hill side, so I was set up and ready to shoot and no bull. So I snuck up the ridge a little ways and there went another 15 cows back in the direction we just came from, but no bull... Then everything was quiet and I thought I was done.
I was just about to give up and I heard the smallest little twig break and looked into a small pine thicket and locked eyes with the bull, and he tore outta there like a bat outa hell. He went across the open hill side and stopped broadside to stare at me. I ranged him at 150yards and let him have it. He was slightly quartering away so I shot him through the neck, through the liver, and out behind the opposite shoulder.
I walked around 3 miles today and killed the bull 200 yards from the main road. GREAT DAY!!!
