Title: drift boats with doors, worth it or not?
Post by: jeepster on October 03, 2011, 12:06:52 PM
im in the market for a drift boat, and im trying to decide whether to build one to erikspecs and have it be exactly the way i like it, or save time and just buy one, but ive seen alot of the newer high-end boats with doors in the sides. ive never fished out of a drifter with doors, but i can see the advantages. granted they are a convienence, are they really worth the extra bucks? what do you guys think about them?

No doors. Put more credence in the width of the bottom, its oars, and how it tracks.

Buy a low profile if you are worried about getting in and out. At least everyone can get in and out easily.

FYI, you can get doors in a Willie. They built the first DB with doors back in the 80's. You can have the best of all worlds. Call Willie Boats and tell them exactly what you want. They build each boat to the customers requirements.

I swear they need to start paying you kris... wonder how many willies youve sold? lol If i had to guess the doors are prolly a spendy option and if your on anykind of a budget i wouldnt get hung up on having them. Kinda cool for sure but def not a top priority on a list of options id be looking at  :twocents:

I don't have any personnal experience with driftboats that have doors but I did just spend a month at a lodge in Alaska that had about 20+ driftboats both with and without doors. The freshwater guides all told me the boats with the doors were by far the most popular amongst their clients, both young and old. I would definitely consider 1 if and when I buy another drift boat. :twocents:
