Post by: poopooheaddad on October 05, 2011, 12:46:44 PM
I have been trying to do some research on trail cameras, but time restraints are killing me, I have done a few searches on here and have looked at some of the web sites that have been linked, stores, ect....What I am looking for is a scouting camera that can stand up to washington weather, cost between $100.  and $250., little to no noise, and no flash (no visible light emmited) I would like to use this for scouting as well as at my house (I have ahole neighbors.. see past reports) do you have any Idea's?????? thanx in advance.....and what is soaking?(justing sitting?)

A camera that is very quiet is going to be tough.  I will be reading this thread.

I think many of the cameras found and stolent are because of the noise they emit when the snap pictures.

I would seriously look at the Bushnell Trophy Cams. I have several and have been very happy. I really don't hear them unless I have them in my face when they trip. I also use mine on video and think they make less noise that way. Just stay away from the 2010 8pm trophy cams. They had many problems. I have a 2011 8mp and am very happy with it. I could send you some vids from it if you would like. The older 5mp cams are very good cams also.

I also build some cool security boxes for these cams. After getting 3 of my older cams stole I won't put a cam out without a security box.

I can run them for 1 year with $5.00 worth of batteries and they are very small cams.

thank you Bobcat and Fishcrazy, you guys nailed it, I hate seeing all the stories of people getting there rigs stolen, from either bad placement or from the camera giving them away.

the bushnell trophy cam 8mp is the best. they quiet, produce great quality pics and will run forever. i have gotn almost 9k pics on one cam, since july this year, and have yet to lose a bar of battery life. i would def recommend getting bear box with python lock for it and use 3-4inch lags when attaching to tree, and make sure you put it on a tree that cannot be easily sawed down. you can ge the whole set up for about 200 on amazon. great cam for the money.

I second the Truth 60. If you do have issues you can't beat the customer service at Primos.

There are some like security cameras.  You can climb up a tree and mount the camera very inconspicuously.  Then it can use a cable or an antenna to send the images to a box you hide in bushes or under moss.  Designed to be hidden from humans.

Thanx all, It looks like the Bushnell or the Primos will end up on my Christmas list along with a security box, and a extra thanx to H2ohunter for his journal about 30some odd pages of his set up, and a pretty cool read....

You know I have a Bushnell with password protect and all the gagets, covering my drive way and it takes great photos. But I wanted to take a cheap camera with me on my elk hunt and went to Walmart and picked up a wildgame cam with IR. And I think it takes as good or better photos than the Bushnell and is easier with no password. I did not like that it comes with four eyelets one each corner  to hang it on a tree with two bungees. I solved that problem with a package of 3 small master locks all keyed the same an a 3ft length of small link chain. Worked great this season. But only got photos of myself going to and from blind.

I went to Cabelas about a year ago to look for a camera. One of the lucky workers there got to try all of them. He said that his favorite camera was a bushnell trophy cam, and his second favorite was a tasco 5mp something. With the tasco being $100s, I took the tasco  :chuckle:

I can also put in a good word for the Wild Game Innovation Cameras. I have been 100% satisfied with my X6c. I also didn't like the attachment methods but that is an easy fix like you said. I will say that I like the ones that do not have the digital display on the outside best (like the X6c) because if it is in an area that gets any direct sunlight it will eventually damage the LCD display (had it happen with one already).
