Title: Fishing Cabo San Lucas
Post by: helzbelz888 on October 08, 2011, 02:42:07 PM
I was in Cabo for a week with my partner in crime. I drank my weight in pina coladas and ate like a king at the resteraunts. I have nothing but good things to say about our resort. We got a great deal on a weeklong stay at a all inclusive resort and I decided to fish for a day! at the airport everyone got me all excited because the biggest fishing tournament of the year was going on. I chartered a 28 foot boat all by myself and spent more than i wanted but it was WORTH it... After it was all said and done, for just under 500 bucks i got 8 hours of fishing with a captain and a deckhand on a 28 foot boat all by myself.

We limited on el Dorado (Mahi Mahi) and they are gorgeous fish. They change colors in the water and on the deck!  They fought like crazy and it was epic to watch them strike. The way they fish is with the lures on the top of the waves because the predatory fish are just under the surface. when you hook a fish like a mahi mahi the deckhand throws in a live fish on a hook and the others get excited strike the other fish. I caught a couple this way and it was back to back fish on...
The best part was fishing for other fish after i limted on mahi mahi. I hooked into a marlin at around 11am and when it struck it was AMAZING! The fish jumped three times before diving and when it landed it would leave a hole in the water the size of a small car. The guide guessed it was close to 400-500 lbs. After fighting it for 2 hours and following it with the boat one of the knots broke on the leader and we lost the fish :(

It was all i could do to function the next day. my arms are still sore and i'm still smiling! i have about 40-50lbs of mahi mahi fillets in the freezer  :IBCOOL: I WILL go back and catch a marlin....

Congratulations!  Went fishing in Cabo on our honeymoon many years ago and did very well.  My wife caught a 63" Mako Shark and I caught a 55# Mahi Mahi.  Mako Shark is absolutely delicious by the way.  Awesome trip!

Congrats on the good fishing.
Your lucky you even found a boat to go on. I have been down there during the fishing tournaments and seen them sold out at $1000 PER POLE!!

The diving is really cool about 400 yards to the right on your 1st pic also.  :)

thats redic! i kept asking around and the boat for 300, 90 in taxes 30 for live bait, 15 for fishing license and the rest was in tips, bought a cooler, ice, food, fish cleaning, etc... it came out to just about 500 even (never did the conversion from pesos...)

it was weird it was the same charter company but i got "full" from many of them till one person found me a boat. it was 28 feet and i wouldnt go out in anything smaller.... ive never fished in that rough of water before. the waves were so big that when you went down you couldnt see anything untill you came back up.

i wanted to go diving but i blew my money on fishing lol.

That looks like it was a lot of fun, I'm jealous.
Those fish look like they have been exposed to radiation  :yike:

haha thanks! I had my poly's on and you could see them underwater when they strike sometimes! it was SO *censored*... they were changing colors all the time! when they died they turned white with blue dots and then changed back to that cool green color!

the guide said they caught three the day before and that day we limited in about 2.5 hours of fishing! if anyone has the chance i would definitely take it!
