Title: butte
Post by: the509hunter on October 21, 2011, 09:39:56 PM
was up on the butte today and got stopped by a gammie and as usual he checked my rifle and my tags and asked how hunting was going and i told him i was trying to get my first buck. he went on to tell me yesterday a kid had shot his first buck and it was a 5x4 and it ran on to private property. the kid and dad did the right thing and went and found the land owners house and asked for permission to go get it in return he told them to f off and called the sherrif for tresspassing. the kid was 12 how messed up do u have to be to not let a 12 year old go claim his first buck and a nice one at that.

I am pretty sure the game department can asist with that

:yeah: The gammies can go retrieve it. At least that was what a gammie told me when I took my daughter to hunter ed classes.

What happens if it's too late, or the game wardens can't retrieve it?  Does he get to still use his tag?

so did the gamie say if he went to assist in the recovery of the game? i thought if you shot an animal and it crossed a landowners line if you called fish and game there could be something done to recover it?

It is ultimately up to.the landowner in WA if game can be retrieved. The gameys can talk to the owner but the owner does not have to allow even the gamey to recover the deer. D!ck headed move on landowners part but his choice. Only reason I would not allow recovery is if they were trespassing to.shoot deer. If it ran onto my property and died and the hunter asked for.permission to retrieve I would.help them.  :twocents:

I don't believe for one second all or most landowners are dicks. I think a landowner like this is probably just sick of being taken advantage of. How easy would it be to shoot a deer just on the wrong side of the fence of private property and then claim that you shot it legally but then it jumped the fence into private land? I know for a fact this happens often and if I were a landowner I too would get sick of it. Its unfortunate if this young kid shot his first deer legally and it jumped the fence, but I have my doubts that is the true story.

I have met a lot of landowners and fellow hunters in several states including this one, most people are willing to help out a good honest person. Just my  :twocents:

I guess I.should clarify my post. If.it happened like said. Kid shot deer on public then it ran.and died on private and owner won't let them.retrieve. I completely understand the trespassing deal this last weekend I was at a family farm and saw two guys in full camo army creeping into the field I ran out there and they crossed fence and were walking the fenceline looking into our family farm. I jumped 3 legal bucks getting.out.to them and.they aimed their.guns at each one. Then told me.that they weren't trespassing and the land.has to be posted. I told them if they would have.shot one of the deer on our land.they would have filled one of our tags and the sheriff would be on the way. This is after they shot at a deer on our land early am I think they missed because 3 of us searched for.3 hours and nothing
