:yike: Damn nice buck. Anyone know the shooter, member here?
-
I know him. No, not a member. I know the whole story too. Lucky guy though!
-
Great to see bucks like that still coming out of the Teanaway. Big, thick unit, there are a lot of bigguns in there.
-
well no it was not harvested on the road as the story goes from him is they were camped up the westfork and he was driving his quad up the road towards the end he see's this great buck stopped and stalked it on foot BANG .the forest service crew also knew of this buck and told my father about it anyway congrats to casey once again a nice buck. you dont often see this type of buck in the back of a pick-up anymore. the other problem is they live right down in the bottoms where its hard to get them.

Very nice buck. The funny thing about this is I never believe anybody (unless I was there, and sometimes not even that) when they tell me where and how. :chuckle: :chuckle:

I live next door to Casey and I have the "story" on this monster. This was relayed to me in almost real time via txt messages while it was occuring. I've filled in some of the gaps with what I believe happened...
This all happened on Saturday, opening morning...
6:45am: Casey's wife gently wakes him up with a hot cup of coffee and informs him shooting time starts in 10mins.
7:00am: Casey grabs his nephew (Clovus?), throws him on the quad and rides 300 yards up the ridge from their camp.
7:15am: While Casey is trying to get his loungehunter chair assembled Clovus spots movement in the woods about 200 yards away.
7:16am: Casey decides to put out the fire they built to roast marshmellows and investigates the "movement".
7:17am: Clovus realizes he left his Nintendo DS in camp and radios down for someone to bring it up.
7:19am: Casey sets up his shooting bench and locks his rifle (M70 300 wsm) in the sled, just in case...
7:21am: A pack of wolves come busting out of the woodline with what appears to be a large moose bearing down on them.
7:21:13am: About halfway down the ridge the moose sees Clovus frantically trying to wake up Casey and charges their position.
7:21:14am: Casey wakes up, realizes the sled is pointed in the wrong direction and starts trying to get his rifle out of the sled.
7:21:15am: He decides to just throw the entire sled on Clovus's back and point Clovus at the moose instead.
7:22:17am: Casey shoots over the mooses head in an attempt to divert the animal away. At this point he still doesn't know it's legal.
7:23:11am: Clovus convinces him it's legal and he takes a hail mary shot at 789 yards as the animal is halfway to Cle Elum at this point.
7:23:12:30am: Bullet makes impact and down it goes...
7:33am: My wife comes out to the garage (while I am packing for a trip to Entiat) with a txt message from Casey showing what appears to be a muley/moose hybrid. My wife asks why Casey is able to shoot a buck within an hour of the season opening and why it's been 5 years since I've shot anything.
7:37am: I go and pee on Casey's front porch to help alleviate some of my frustration.

why did it take 12 hrs to get back to camp? 8:00 am till 8:00 pm cut it in 1/2 ? the deer was down in the burn should have been able to wheel the quad right to it gut it sew it up and drag it back behind the quad be at the trailer at 8 :45 am hunt'n dont get any easier than that .
-
I think he left his camera in Carnation and ran home to get it before cutting on it. And then he made Clovus skin the thing using his swiss army knife. It takes forever to cut through bones with those things.
-
yea thats what i have been told about those moose/mulie hybreds i have to encounter one i 'd probly pass just because of all the work ;)

Love the palmation
