Title: Oregon Elk opener
Post by: C-Money on October 27, 2011, 08:52:03 AM
We drove down to the farm Tuesday night, Wifes Uncle has a bull tag. We had been seeing elk all over the place up untill about a week before the opener. On the way down, got a call from the Uncle saying a good size bunch of elk were back, down in the CRP feeding.  Good deal! Opening Morning Uncle, his 9yo son and I are up and in position to intercept the elk as the move back to timber. Around 0730, here the come. Two branch bulls first, with around 30 elk close behind. 3 more bulls are in the group of 30! We are getting ready to deploy the shooting stix for Uncle and wait for them to get into comfortable range. WAIT! What the heck! All the sudden the two bulls in front STOP, and the main bunch cluster up and begin to turn. Two "men", Trespassers, begin running up one of our fence lines between us and the elk! :bash: The elk turn, and run towards the neighbors property. No shots fired, the elk run off, I have no idea what these two people were doing. I glass them as they ran off, did not see any rifles in hand, but they were eventualy picked up by a truck driving around on the neighbors place. We did not see any more elk, but did have a great day together in the outdoors. We did see a LOT of mule deer, that was good to see after a rough deer season on the farm. Another neighbors family killed 3 bulls, all 5x5's. In closing, Trespassers really tick me off!

Wow that really sucks. I wonder if they were trying to chase them on to a neighboring property...?  :dunno: Either way that is a pretty cheap move!

We were wondering that too. All the land owners are really good about staying on their own ground, but maybe these were friends that have no respect or honor, or idea where they were. They had to have set out early to get to where they were on foot, they crossed quite a few acres of our ground to be where they were. Hope the elk calm enough to come back down to feed on our place.

Yeah, it sounds like they were trying to get the elk to go somewhere else, for whatever reason.

I bet the elk will be back within a day or two, or at least I hope they are!
