Well me and a co-worker are taking off for Montana Friday morning for deer hunting. We are headed north of Lewistown. Any last minute advice for Montana newbies?

Good luck to you on your hunt!

Good luck on the hunt!

Are you hunting private or public land? We used to hunt over there & it was good but seems like years ago. Don't shoot the 1st buck ya see. We're leaving Saturday for SW Montana. Good luck.

You should wait a couple weeks for when the rut is in full swing. I quit going when they jacked the price up on the tags. I love the deer huntin there. There's deer everywhere!!! You'll go nuts! Like he said; "don't shoot the first one you see". A 3pt there will look like a monster to ya cuz when you see something that size over here ya shoot but not over there. It's really hard not to do. If you're going to Lewistown you should maybe head a little farther east like to Jordan. There's some biggies over that way and block management. Good luck.

Have fun. I hear deer numbers are down in the area. I am headed over on the 8th. Looks like good weather. Wish I lived over there. If it does rain watch out for the jumbo mud.

Yep, we are leaving next Friday. Headed down to Broadus. Hunting on some block Management ranches. Like said above, dont shoot the first nice buck you see. Last year when we got into town to check in to the motel, we were early so my friend who has hunted over there befor took us on a drive down toward Morehead. He showed us some nice whitetails and mulies down on property that Powder River Outfitters leases. There were bucks running everywhere, he did that so we would know what to expect. Over the next 4-5 days we passes on a lot of descent bucks and ended up taking some upper scale whitetail bucks. Had he not taken us down to look at what we can expect I would probably have taken a lesser buck.

I hunted between Ashland and Broadus last year!!! I have a niece back there and her husband took me out on their property and there were deer all over the place. It was just starting to get cold and the rut wasn't quite in full swing yet and there was only one nice buck that was got. Here's a couple we got, nothing fancy just meat.
