Title: Margaret Weather
Post by: Mr T on November 04, 2011, 10:21:49 AM
Anybody have a link/resource for weather up along hwy 504 around the Margaret Unit.  As my late season nears I deal with my excitement for the hunt by looking at the weather and forecast continually.

My early season bowhunt was lost due to fire danger.  Now I have realigned my vacation time for the late season.  Just my luck all my points will be flushed down tthe toilet by record early snowfalls or the volcano waking up  :o

Hey!!! Don't be talkin that nasty stuff!!!! My season's comin too!! The 23rd-30th. I lucked out big time, only had 2pts. but would still hate to miss out on once in a lifetime spot. I thought I got lucky a couple years ago when I got an antlerless tag for Mudflow with the front stuffer. Have you heard if Weyco is gonna open gates or not? I went scouting there in Sept. and everything was locked 'cept one road where they were logging. Good luck and I hope the weather co-operates so you can put one down.

I just found out that you can go to the WSDOT site then cameras and SR504 and it'll show a real time picture of the parking lot at the learning center up there. No snow in the parking lot today.

The Forest Learning Center had snow in the parking lot today. Looked like about 3inches or so. Saw foot prints in the snow.

if you cant get very far up the 504 cause of snow it ok. either hunt the green river vally or stick close to the 504 cause they will be headin down to the mudflow. 4 years ago i got drawn for the archery cow tag, theres elk everywhere. we had a heard right of the side of the highway on the mudflow side. my buddie got under them and push them to the outher side. they went under one of the bridges and went up one of the main trails were i was sitting, far enough off the road ofcourse, and i stuck one. it was great couldnt of work out better

That is what I told my hunting partner:  closed for fire danger in the fall and now early record snows in December!  :bash:

Oh well I will find something to worry about until I get out chasing those cows!

Sposed to rain down here all this coming week. Haven't seen or heard what it'll be doing between 2 and 3,000'. I'll definetly be watching the camera in the parking lot. This is starting to get pretty intense now. :yike:

There is about 18 inches of snow up high in Margaret, but the majority of it has little to no snow, and most of it will be melted off by the opener.

There are a ton of elk in the margaret but those of you who havent hunted it before, you gotta get out of the truck. The timber in most of the unit is nice and open, perfect for hunting.

The elk were moving down the mountain but they are going to be scattered again now since the snow is all melting.

Brother had been working on top but they just got snowed out for the year. They should be moving down some before too long.

Looks like it's going to be pretty nice for the next week, aside from Thursday. I'm hoping for a little dusting on the ground before the weekend. Of course, while I'm up there, I can always check NOAA weather on my new 655T Rino!!!!! :yike: :yike: :yike:

I got my cow at 9am or so on friday morning. Bluebird day really, elk were moving all around us. I know of 3 more besides mine shot within 10 minutes of eachother. Its a fun hunt once you find the elk.
