So I convinced my buddy who is not much into hunting to go out the last day and he gets a bull. Not only that but it is his first bull, and his first time out this year. On top of that, its a stud bull that dreams are made of here on the westside! I'm happy for him, and jealous at the same time lol I don't think he fully realized what he got tell we made are rounds today dropping off the meat, all the stops between, and going to the taxidermist with all the congrats from random people. He's pretty proud of himself. He may end up with a scar to prove it from the nice scope job he did on his eyeball, well worth it I'd say though. It's a pretty decent bull for a general public hunt. Story is we just hit the timber, wasn't very far in when we spotted this thing. He shot but the bull didn't appear hit as it spun around and ran down the backside of a ridge out of sight, we get over there and no blood, even tracks were not very visible in the spongy ground, more like just indentations in the ground but couldn't tell what was fresh and what wasn't with all the elk sign in there. I was pretty upset because I thought he missed and knew what type of caliber this bull was, I just kept wandering around all over and luckily stumbled across the thing piled up in the bottom a few hundred yards away from were he shot it, just dumb luck I found it. Poor shot placement but in the end its a success story, and he's got one heck of a bull to very proud of!!! Once again pics are going to have to wait if I can get somebody to post them, if not just imagine a 5x6 with a 38 inch spread and 14 inch daggers coming out the back.

Martinhunter, thanks again for coming through on posting pics. Thanks everybody on the comments, yes he was very spoiled for getting a bull so easily, hopefully this will drive him to hunt more in the future. Luckily for us there was a spur not 250 yards side hill, so no packing up and wasn't to far of a pack, security took it from there. He thought it was a rough pack though, had to chuckle about that one. Once again happy for him, got some meat in the freezer, and can't what to see it hanging on his wall.

Nice bull Good job. Elk can be pretty deceiving when hit. The cow I shot a few years ago got hit hard with a 350 grain 50cal and took off trotting with the rest of the herd like nothing even happened.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that on top of getting this bull the security guy that hauled it out for us recognized the bull from pics that he had taken of it while alive, he had copys of the pics on person and gave them to my buddy to have. Your buddy G is one heck of guy, he literally searched for us for hours, I knew on gps I was two miles as a crow flies from the truck, but didn't know the road system. Once we got the bull to a road I ran to the beginning of it to get him a road number. He saved us a lot of packing because by road it was 6 miles back to the truck. I bet its nice having buddies like that, I know ill be keeping his number saved, we bs'd for a long time and gave him some meat for all the help. I hunt walk in areas the majority of the time and have never met a security guy that cared that much.
