Title: Tikka T3 lite Stainless barrel
Post by: scottfrick on November 18, 2011, 07:59:56 PM
Thinking about getting one of these for xmas in a 270 cal. What does everything think of these rifles?? I went to sportsmans warehouse and held on of these and its crazy how light it was. I'm looking for a light rifle to pack mainly for long hikes for deer hunting.

They shoot amazingly well, triggers are really crisp/nice, and they are about a lb lighter then normal weight guns.  Negative is that they have some cheap parts, mag's are expensive to buy, and the stock rings should be replaced with a base/ring set.

Great guns!!! There is tons of info on this site about them, I have a couple and they have been flawless. One has traveled close to halfway around the world and never a glitch

I have 3 T-3 Lites, .243, .300WSM, & .338WM. all three are excellent. I don't buy into the fact that the rings are no good. I do however use Picatinny style bases with Leupold rings because they allow me more eye relief adjustment. That is the only reason. And yes, the mags are expensive but they hold three rounds. The first round is for your kill and the second and third is for your buddy after he empties his mag.  :chuckle: :chuckle:

Expect very tight groups out of the box and enjoy the light weight and the crisp adjustable trigger. You won't be sorry

the stock rings should be replaced with a base/ring set.

Why is that?

The stock rings are said to be 'not so great' and that upgraded rings will improve accuracy. I replaced mine with the Warne ones when I was having an issue with accuracy, but found it to be that the previous owner didnt put the action in the stock correctly.

Just curious...how did the previous owner install the action?  Was it not lined up with the groove?

:) I have seen used Tikkas with the recoil lug not reseated after disassembly. It looks like the barrel is "free floated" about 3/8 to 1/2 inch at the fore end. The little lug can be sorta hard to get into the slot in the barrel.

Have one in .308, wish it was stainless. I love it. Shooting hand loads. Worked up to a good load and getting 1/2" groups at 200 yards. Very easy to pack around from dawn til' dark.

I bought one in 270 myself this year and I can't say enough good things about it, it's incredibly accurate, easy to shoot and LIGHT!

I never had a problem with the factory rings on my Tikka.

That's what I was thinking when he said his was not put together correctly.

Quite the free float...Why use a dollar bill when a whole pad of construction paper will fit down there. :chuckle:
