Just a got a call from a friend that has never been Sturgeon fishing and I have been trying to get him out. He just watched The Joy of Fishing show and they had OS action.. Now he calls and wants to go badly.. I guess he didn't believe the power of these monsters.. Almost time for some keeper action to start up!
-
I am looking forward to it as well!

Not in my neck of the woods :bash: Sturgeon fishing is suppose to be catch and release only in puget sound waters and tributaries starting January 1st :( Not sure why other than the increased popularity of the fishery the last couple years.
But what really erks me is the indians will still net and sell sturg meat at the local boat launches and street corners I'm sure.

Don't know where you got that info, but that is not true. That is only a proposal that has not been voted on until February and wouldn't change until April first.

I am starting to look forward to it as well. I am still after that first keeper and a true over sized fish.

I thought I read it in the paper? Well I guess thats good news then, sounds like we got one more year atleast for keepers.

I been counting the days. Can hardly wait till the first. Been catching quite a few in the last couple weeks. Gona take next couple weeks to see about poking me an elk, but then will hit hard again.

Picked up a new Extra Heavy action Fethra Stick rod and ordered another Avet reel. Ready for spring to arrive...

Yep better get out there and get em before the sealions shred em all,....sorry just ranting :)

They have been doing studies at Bonneville to determine the number of Sturgeon that the seal and sea lions eat and about the reductions in numbers of them in the lower Columbia. Due to that study I think they are considering closing the sport season so the seals and lions have enough to eat while at the same time having enough salmon for the commercials.

Mike, you get a bigger anchor for the new "hole in the water"? :chuckle:

Yea, Have heard that too. Crazy it is. Sea lions, commericals and Indians versus the sport fisherman.
Who puts more money back into the economy-- uh without a doubt the sportfishermen. Gas, boats, gear, food, hotels, launch fees, etc. It is really sickning what is going on. Add that to the lack of food in the system. Lympreys almost gone, smelt almost gone, shad numbers are down- nothing to eat and being harassed by nets and seals, I'd be heading to different water also... Enjoy it while we can for sure... Even though I love eating this fish, I would fully support C & R - as long as it hits everybody equally.. Indians and Commercials- not much we can do about the seals as of yet. Let the Indians harvest a few seals and start killing them, they will get scarce pretty quickly, they are smart animals and right now they are not threatened in any shape matter or form...

Kevin- Better yet, I got a bigger boat too..... Now I really get to laugh when "YOU" pull the heavier anchor.... That is - when you actually decide your ready for some fishing and take a break from the house...
