This not my hunting year :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash:
I all ready told the story about aerly season and the late season started out... wellll....that why I am pissssseeeedddd
To start, I pulled in to Rimrock to stay the night before making the trek to the Nile area to hunt late elk. I went to unhook the jeep and it wont start :yike: it would turn over but not run. I checked a few things under the hood, and found nothing that would be a dirrect cause to it not running. I just so happen to try and flood it out and I got it to hick-up. So I held the gas teh floor turned it over and eventually got it to run and it has run flawlessly sence. It was running just fine when I hooed it up to the truck and towed it over :dunno:
Then, the propane in my camper was teh next issue. I filled up the bottle before I left and had a hard time getting the refer to run, but I eventually got it on. I noticed the flame on the stove was not very high and the heat was only blowing cold air, and the hot water would not stay lit so I checked it out this morning before I went on the morning hunt. I found that there was ice in the connection not allowing a full flow of gas. After I cleaned out the ice and hooked it back up, I heard a leak in the hose. After closer inspection I noticed the hose was cracked and was leaking really bad and when i moved the hose it darn near broke completely off. So here I am in the middle of no where, th emps are in the teens, no heat, no way to cook foor and no way to keep the water tanks in my camper from freezing up :bash: :bash: :bash:
So sence there is no place to get it fixed on Thanksgiving Day, I headed home............
The plan is to fix the camper in the morning and head back over, instead of a 4 day hunting trip, it will be 2 days of hunting :cryriver:
Oh and I have to add, my generator would not start last night also, so I pulled teh plug to clean it and broke the porcelin in the process.
:bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash:
This has not been a kind year to me at all :violent1: :violent1: :violent1: :violent1:
It did make my wife happy that I was home for turkey dinner..........the first time in 6 years or so ;)

kinda a brazen first post dont you think?

During late season, I always have the heater head to the tank so I can heat the trailer. I always have a spare one burner stove that runs on smaller fuel cans, and the cold weather gear to sleep in. Colapsable water jug to get water from a creek, (after I drain the trailer/camper tank before it freezes). I've had dead battries.. Use a lantern! If the fridge can't be used, Put the food in a box on the roof or in the snow. All the camper becomes is shelter. Saves a trip home. Things freeze. Things break. Overcome. Improvise. HUNT.

That's a bummer, but it isn't like we have ideal hunting weather with the snow and rain making for a nice crust on top of the snow. Not many guys doing much but driving up and down that 1600 road all morning

you can go vote for the wall tent in the poll section now.

you can go vote for the wall tent in the poll section now.
I have a wall tent and have for years, but when I hunt alone, a wall tent is pain in the butt to put up by your self. I put it up and took it down one to many times on my own, so I bought a camper.
Hunting partners are not reliable and the only one I can rely on is my self

Gonna meet Ribka up there also. He wa going to try and run me around Yakima looking for the parts I needed but I told him to go hunt, I will go home, have dinner with the family and return tommorow.

Just talked to Gasman and he's been out doing the evening hunt. not sure if it's lucky or not but he passed two herds out in Randle
on his way to his "spot". said he got out and the only thing he saw was a spike running away.
Guess that's a good sign though.
hope for better luck tomorrow.
@yoter...think we're gonna hire Neighbor D's Guide Service next year...lol

Man that sucks, Gasman. As the old saying goes... If it aint one thing, it's two!
You should just sell that pile of pucky and get yourself a good wall tent and stove. I think you would like it. Less crap to go wrong, and
you get style points.
Good luck on your hunt.
-
Good luck gasman !! :sry:
-
Just got home and stuck nothing :bash:
Seen elk everyday but nothing close enough to shoot at :dunno:
Did watch 3 does run across a clearing across the ravine from me and they spooke dup a spike elk and that spike was doing about 60mph down the ravine and crossed the tip of finger about 80 yards in front of me. He was a freaight train with a mission to hit the Bethel unit :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

I have a elk tent but it's just a big pain the a$$ to set up and take down alone. I hunt and camp alone most of the time, so the camper is my Palace.
If I get a hunting partner that is going to be there to set up and take down, I would bring it.

sounds like a good weekend

Yeah, it ended up being a good weekend after all te htrouble i had at the begining

In the first 2 min. of our hunbt, I get a call from Ribka on the radio and he was staring down a nice 22" wide 4x4 but would not shoot because he has a Desert unit tag that starts Wed. :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: Lucky *censored* :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Where did you get the idea I was talking about you :dunno:
Sence you don't hunt with me any more, I dont have a hunting partner to help with a tent set up and take down, and when you had to leave hunting camp early (for what ever reason) and I had to take it down on my own one to many times. I went another route for my hunting camp.

Gasman, if you need someone to hit the hills with just holler man.

Spring Turkey ;)

Keep your head up bro, your time will come.

Saw the Barbie jeep on the 1600 road being towed up the hill the other day.... too far away to give out a holler. Saw lots of animals, but most were doing mach 3 with their tongues hanging out. Even far from any roads I ran into more hunters than I have ever seen this year, even in places where I have never seen anyone else, way up high. The good thing about that was they were pushing the animals around, I sat a lot in draws/escape routes, just didn't connect. Passed on a very very nice 4x4 buck at 45 yards... Saw him bedded at 70 and snuck up within range but he never offered a good shot. He stood there at 45 quartered to me for an eternity... just didn't feel right about the shot and passed. He was bedded with a doe and about 20 yards behind him a cow stood up... she bolted and game over. Saw a few nice bucks, just never got the shot. Did see a couple of really nice bulls, a 6x6 that offered me a nice broadside and a 5x6 at 30... wish I had a bull tag! LOL Saw a monster 6x6 at 100 yards also. Had lots of fun and the 10 year old in our group got a very nice 3x3 Muley, so it was a great trip.

Lot sof people and elk running around, thats for sure......
Were you camped right before the cattle gaurd on the private property?
Sure was a lot of guys hunting and camping in the blue forest this year. I was amased at the amout of people parked and camped at each gate :yike:
-
Thought ya couldnt hunt the blue forest?
-
Thought ya couldnt hunt the blue forest?
You cant.....but they were any ways :bash:
I have heard there is a small group of people that have permission to hunt it and they do, but from my past experiance, they have been more descreate about it. I have not seen them park at the gate but I believ the guys that were there this weekend were newbee's to the Nile. I had two guys camped next to me that were there for there first time. They moved from hunting around I-90 area to the Nile :bash:
And what surpride me, was none of them were kicked out or told to move there camp. They were camped in front of the blue gates :dunno:
Heard the Warden was up there on sunday also, but guys still hunted the blue forest.
-
Ya seen that camp. Hate them peeps who tresspass
-
Gasman the Matsons changed the rules this year. They were giving passes out like crazy to the private property. We camp right there in the yard at the cattle guard and Larry no longer is in charge of policing the property. The guy that was camped right there at the 3rd blue gate completely screwed up that area.
It was like rifle season up there this year. I have never seen that many bow carrying people out there in late season before. Hell there were groups of 5 people going up and down the ridge in a pack. There were a lot of animals in there but they were all running balls to the wall with their tongues hanging to the ground.

Yeah, it was nuts around there......
Who gives out the passes for hunting the property now that Larry is not doing it and is there any policing of the property?
-
The Matson fruit company gives them out. I have no idea what critiria they use and no there is no policing of the property. There must have been 40 guys in there on Saturday
-
Gasman... it was a ZOO... people all over the property this year, and no one had a clue of who was supposed to be there or not. Normally just a few of us in there, but not this year. The YAHOO who was camped at the 3rd gate really messed things up, I will say I saw a lot more animals, but they were all doing mach 3 with their tongues hanging out. A couple of times tried to put the stalk on animals, only to have someone come crunching up and blow it. I think if it remains the same that area is a lost cause now. You can only hike so far over there to get away from people, and you start running into people from the other side... LOL
