Title: Gubernatorial Update - Questions to Candidates Unanswered
Post by: pianoman9701 on December 02, 2011, 09:59:06 AM
On July 26th, I sent letters to both US Rep Inslee and to Rob Mckenna regarding their positions on hunting privileges and 2nd Amendment rights. To date, I've received no response from either candidate. I'm ramping up the pressure on both to get them to come out and state their views publicly and will keep you updated on my progress. Here's are the questions we sent to them on behalf of Washington for Wildlife:

Washington For Wildlife Political Questionnaire

1.   Have you ever hunted or fished in Washington?  If not, do you support hunting and fishing in Washington?
2.   Do you see hunting as a sport that is vital for tourism and supports the success of peripheral businesses in Washington such as food and lodging, retail sales, gasoline sales, etc.?
3.   Do you support an individual’s right to bear arms under the 2nd Amendment of the US Constitution?

Bait and hound hunting for cougars and bears was outlawed in Washington by public vote in 1996. Since then, their populations have increased, in some areas dramatically. Damage to natural resources, livestock, and pets has been significant, and confrontation with humans is becoming more frequent as they move closer to Washington cities and towns.
4.   In light of increasing predator populations, would you support increased predator hunting opportunities in Washington?

Washington hunters and fishermen want elected officials who support their sport and recognize the contributions that they make to wildlife and conservation.

5.   When appointing WDFW commissioners, would you choose candidates who actively support hunting and fishing opportunities?
6.   Do you now or have you ever supported any organization that opposes hunting or fishing?
7.   Will you actively support and protect a Washington resident’s hunting and fishing privileges if you’re elected into office?

We decided on these questions because they are fairly general, not getting into specific areas that would create controversy (like the wolf issue, for example). I will continue to pursue the candidates for answers and report to you on the results. In addition, I've begun to research available records with regards to their voting records on hunting and 2nd Amendment issues. I've also written to the NRA for help with this.

By the way, gang, if you haven't signed up to join Washington for Wildlife, this is the kind of stuff we're doing for you, member or not. If you like that someone is going toe-to-toe with the candidates for you, you can help us out by joining WFW for free. We need numbers of people to have a stronger voice with our politicians.

So what's up with that link? It looks like an essentially blank page.
Hard to register when you can't figure out how.
