Ok, here's the story. I'll keep it short. My dad and I left Renton about 4 on the 1st and got to the Wood Shed about 7. we figured we were going to check out a few areas that day and spend the next couple on any hot spots. So all day goes by and it felt like we had covered every square inch of that unit and still hadn't seen anything. About 3 I finally spot 4 cows and they wanted nothing to do with us. They were gone quick. That night after a great prime rib and some beers at Whistlin Jack's we decided to focus the next day on that area we saw the cows. Next morning got in there before sun up and sat and wondered till about 11. We met back at the truck and were more confused than ever. Tons if sign but no animals. We drove up to another area and struck out again. We then with high hopes went back to the only place we have seen anything. After about 30 mins of walking an old road I spot 2 elk bedded down about 50 yards up a hill. Drew back and let one fly. Damn! I missed! Right over the top. Completely disgusted I picked up my pride and kept on that same road. About 20 mins later we noticed they had circled around and we now about 60 yards out and eyes right on us. Moving quickly and trying to keep my pulse in check I drew back another and SMACK! She went about 50 yards and piled up over the log and in some brush. Little did I think, the work was yet to begin. After about 3 hours she was in the truck and we were headed back for a beer. I couldn't have done this without my dad and hope that I as well as everyone get to create memories with loved ones. I have three boys at home and cant wait till they are old enough. Best of luck everyone and best wishes!

congrats on the elk. we were up there last weekend and never again for me.. never seen so many hunters and roads in such a small area. there was some elk in there but the amount of camps and partiers was to much for me. :dunno:
