I was traveling home from getting a Christmas Tree in Lacey tonight with my neice and seen a car that has been sitting over by the tank crossing on the JBLM... So I took the next turn and went down to look at the car and make sure no one was dead in there as it's been sitting there for over a week... On the way there just pulled off the highway my neice was like ewww GUTS!! I was like what? So I put the headlights on it stopped and got out. WOW the smell they have been there for a few days. LOL but there were 2 hind quarters of a elk stacked up that had rope coming from them and next to them was the cape. The one has been ate off of from birds and coyotes but I think it may have came from a poacher. But who would poach an animal right by the highway just off 510 the tank crossing. I called the gamewarden and left a message and the statepatrol and reported e car and elk so we will see what happens.
-
Could have been hit by a car. The people started loading the meat and got nevers and left the rest. :dunno:

Happens to be right next to a rez. Just so happens the deer numbers on Ft. Lewis, bordering the rez are down. Coincidence? Doubt it! :bash:
-
Is it just me or is every thread going down this road anymore :dunno: :bash:

Its not just you 400.

I'm pretty sure he means military rez.

nope ... sounds like injuns to me ;)

I think the mods should make a "I point fingers" section so I can avoid it all together! :chuckle:
Don't get me wrong I don't condone any illegal, unethical, ignorant actions but to have a simple thread turn into a 25 page bashing thread that gets nothing resovled! Except making the mods work on monitoring everything to see who gets the boot first! I think they would rather enjoy the site too! :sry: :twocents:

:yeah: I'm sure getting sick and tired of all the "Indian Bashing" post..
May be the person who killed the animal in question could not make it back to recover the rest of said meat?? Maybe a death in the family, ,or maybe their child got hurt and had to be taken to the hospital..Anyone ever think of that?? Hell its easier to hope on the "BLAMR TRAIN"...

Or is setting in jail right now.
-
Very possible it was a legal kill that wasn't taken care of properly. If someone took it home, hung it up and decided to finish skinning and cleaning the next morning then the meat may have gone bad so they took it out and dumped it. I know where this road is and it is used as a dump site quite often. I have also heard of many white folks out that way that poach on the military rez. There is one person that lives on Fir Tree road that talks about it all the time, but nogbody can catch him in the act. Whites are just as much outlaws as tribal folks are. :twocents:
-
Sounds like wanton waste......call it in.

Let there be no confusion! I was 100% talking about illegal poaching by the Local tribe on Ft. Lewis. Although, i will admit ive never seen them shoot and kill an animal. I will admit to being in TA 20, hunting legally with a bow, and having gone through all the proper steps with the NAC on Ft. Lewis and having not one but two Native American men approach me with rifles. This happened in Dec of 09. They were wearing full camo with scoped rifles. Now call it what you want. I call it illegal poaching by two Native Americans! Yes. I reported the incodent. :bash: :bash: :bash:

Good job for reporting the incident, poaching, tresspassing, etc.
but 2 offenders is still 2 offenders, no matter what race.
The main reason "Tribe bashing" occurs imo, is that they don't hide what they are doing, because there is little reason to.
The average poacher is a little more secretive, full camo, and rifles, probably would not see them. :twocents:
I do not support "sovereignty" within US borders, but do understand that it is a minority who get all the attention, and cannot blame them all.

Here we go, someone will sure accuse you of being "racist."
I was last week.
I made a comment about indian plates on a truck and someone found my personal email and accused me of being racist. The email went on about how this will have a profound affect on my business. And would you represent racist people if they bashed in a indian truck?. It really pissed me off, because that was not what the thread was even about.
I think no matter who anyone is, its about conservation and following the rules/laws that we must abide by and pay for. Times are different then they were in the 19th Century. :twocents:

Well then something is way off in this country, because last time I crunched the numbers.
If you are:
White
Work
Pay taxes
Never been to prison
Know who your father is
Then there is a fairly damn good chance, you are one of the minorities if you live within the US OF A.
I sure don't feel I'm getting any extra " Attention". :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
:yeah: ain't that the truth!!
-
I meant that the few that are poaching, or engaged in unscrupulous behavior, are the ones that get attention, not the ones that follow the rules.
Just like the news, if it ain't bad news, they dont report it.

Last year durring MF season I was hunting with low97ram and we found 2 elk quarters stacked up on teh side of an old logging road in TA20. I woul dbet anything it was poachers. That area gets hit hard my poachers and this was off the beaten path, an old road that is not traveled very often any more. Most people dumping game scraps just pull over and dump them, not go out of there way to get rid of them.
And we found some serious rubs not far from where we found the quarters.

IF YOU READ MY POST...........The MILITARY RESERVATION!!! JBLM -- Joint Base Lewis McChord
It was NOT hit by a car or truck, it was not shot!!
IT'S RIGHT NEXT TO THE ROAD!! They have rope either wrapped around them or tied through them the was once hanging from a tree. They were stacked neatly there and the top one has been ate off of from coyotes and birds. GO LOOK FOR YOURSELF It's the first Road to your right past the tank crossing or 1st road to your left just past Southworth Elemantary School. Turn on the road and make a right and its on your right. There have never been any elk out here before on that road. I've lived out here for 28 years and have never seen one there.

Im gonna be in TA 20 today. I will take a look. I know exactly where you are talking about.

Ya as soon as your turn off Hwy 510 as your going towards the Tank Crossing from Yelm. Make a left on to TA 20 and then make an immidate right and you will see them on the right just on the side of the road. Might want to use a mask they are pretty smelly!!

I too have lived out there for a long time and went to high school in yelm. class of 2000. The farm I work at is on the rainier side of town that butts up to the fort and timber company properties that go behind the high school and over that way. The elk run around there. That small herd gets pushed from farm to farm to fort property and back around again. I know of two elk legally killed out of that "area" this year. If its just hind quarters laying there you don't know how it died so to scream that it was poached makes you sound a little wacko.... Or you know more than your telling
-
There are so many possible causes/reasons for this, why would you start bashing Indians without more information? Doing so shows incredible ignorance and instantly labels you as a bigoted redneck.
There could be a dead hunter who died packing the rest out. It could be poachers, and there are plenty of stupid white poachers out there. Lots of the "good ole boys" have little respect for our game or the laws. It could be one of the other reasons already stated.
Before you start bashing Indians or any other group, make sure you know what you're talking about.
-
I hope your NOT talking about me bashing any Native Americans?? BECAUSE I'M NOT!! And I'm class of 2002 from Yelm as well. I know there are alot of elk out on the RAINIER side.... but not between Yelm/Nisqually!!
1/4 mile from Southworth school on the left!! And I'm not saying anyone did anything. I'm saying I found 2 hind quarters. I'm pretty sure to what happened is someone was hanging them in there camp brought them home hung them in there garage to cut up and let them hang to long and they started spoiling. That's my best guess.
-
Yelm, he was pointing that comment at hammer most likely. Hammer gets a lot of flack for the way he presents himself around here. I wouldn't scream poacher to wdfw on this but reporting it is still a good idea.
-
Nope. You said nothing about the Indians.

Nice job reporting, by the way.

In our efforts to pattern the herd and take pics we've followed to that part of the rez. It's an unfortunate waste of meat.

To me it looks like there are two maybe three different issues on this thread. It seems that many will rush to judgment about why someone posted something on here. Its really hard to understand unless you sit down and physically talk to that person.
I don't know anyone on this website, so I cannot comment on what they are thinking or state on a thread.
But, good job reporting the elk quarter and yes it could be a number of different factors.
When the words "Indians" or "Natives" are mentioned someone always assumes the worst and they are a biggot or ignorant, which may not be the case at all.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, either way. :twocents:

You'll notice I said that those actions label someone as a bigot. I didn't say they were one. But, ignorant is certainly what you are when you jump to conclusions without specific facts being available.

Yes you are right.
I was just making a point because as you said, Ignorant people rush to judgment.

I just got home from TA 20. I did not see the quarters. However, I did see a cow head and hide dumped just around the corner. In fact, it couldve been drug to where i saw it. While i was beating the brush, i did find a elk front shoulder. It had been chewed on pretty good. It was at least a mile from the cow head. I took pics of what i found if anyone wants to see. Now! if any of these comments were directed towards me as far as being ignorant or a bigot, you couldnt be more incorrect. In fact if you actually knew me, you would defend my comment. As far as my comment about the local rez poaching out there.... IVE FRIGGIN SEEN IT FIRST HAND!!! Im not saying its just Natives people. Its white man too. Im just sharing what ive seen first hand.

I'm a BIGOT, RACSIST, IGNORANT *censored*, ETC..................SO, Get Over It...........
I hate everyone equally
So I guess you can call me EOH (Equal Opertunity Hater)

Did anyone think about calling the game department so they could figure it out? If there truly was some criminal activity, it may be nice to report it.

Saw that..I didn't go back far enough in the post :sry:

There is elk between yelm and nisqaully, been logging out there for years and seen plenty of elk less than 1\4 mile from where these qaurters are. there is always an elk or deer hangin on the back porch of the purple house just inside the tribal rez boundary. I have and many of the federal timber sale people have witnessed tribal elk hunting right behind the casino, as well as plenty of white guy's poachin in there also.
-
WOW... Well do you have pictures of any ELK right by the Casino cause I have friends that are Tribal and I have lived in this area for 28 years and have never seen a elk in that area.... I have seen them in Rainier on JBLM... (Off Rainier Road)
-
Hey Yelm Hunter. PM me your number and I will text you those pics. As far as elk on the fort, I've seen them in TA 11. Less than a mile from the Roy Y. I've seen them in TA's 21 and 23. I don't believe for a second these are resident elk. In fact I know they aren't. They are just passing through, looking for food. Usually around late spring.
-
there was a rag horn killed on ploeline raod a couple years ago. that was runnig around in area 15 and 11. and the vehical didnt look to good.
-
I don't usually pack a camera while cutting timber, if you would like I can get you in touch with some of the forestry guys from ft.lewis to confirm if you feel that it's necessary. I have been in the area for 40 years not that thats relevant.
