Long story short, I had to work.
So I had my son go out with grandpa last weekend of the mod firearm season, we had this buck on the trail cams for ahwile but it was being nocturnal. for some reason he just couldn't stand the thought of a smaller buck in with the does so just had to come check on them during shooting hours. My son wasn't really comfortable without dad there, and didn't like the open sights on the winchester 30-30, and this buck kind of took his breath away, he'd never seen an animal like that up close and behind his sights :chuckle:
So after him messing with it he decides to pass on this buck, a close family friend then shot the buck as it was leaving, I was happy my boy got to witness this buck up close, not upset at all he didn't get to shoot it - cause frankly its just too big a deer for his first - he may go his whole life and never get a bigger buck lol

anyone got a recepie for tag soup? :chuckle:

Nice!!!
-
I'm not sure I've seen longer eye guards
-
That buck definitely has some nice eye guards. Particularly the one.
-
Great job :yeah:
-
Good looking whitetail
-
thats great that your son didn't take a shot that he wasn't comforitable with.
-
Your boy was smart to pass him up. He obviously had he sights set on a big boy.
-
Good for your son! To have the forsight to recognize the situation and not takng the shot when he wasn't comfortable  You have a good one there! Oh and the buck too
-
Thats a great buck. Your boy should be proud he didnt force a shot he wasnt comfortable with karma will return the favor in due time.
-
that shows alot about your boy, i know some adults that would have forced it, great job kid on keepn your composer and i to believe that good karma will pay you back....
-
open sights or not I THINK LEAD WOULD BE FLYING :dunno: :chuckle: I wish my boys could do something like that :chuckle: Nice buck
-
I wish more grown men would show the self control your son did! I think the memories of the ones that got away are stronger than the ones that bit the bullet anyways!
-
Wow, that is an awesome buck and I bet your son was quite overwhelmed by the whole experience. By the size of the head on that deer, I bet that was a heavy, heavy deer.
-
I'd hate to toss out a number as it wasn't weighed, but was crazy heavy for a whitetail. I usually toss my little ones in the back of the truck like a bale of hay :chuckle:
Wasn't no tossing this one anywhere

Good job dad on raising such a good son. He'll definitely be blessed some day with the opportunity to harvest another just like it or even bigger, keep it up dad.

Nice buck! IMO there is no such thing a "too big" for a kids first animal.

Outstanding buck KF!!
Was that taken up at your Dad's place? If so I was wondering if he had made it thru.

Sounds like he did the right thing, but that picture will haunt him for a long time. I did the same, just once and never forgot about it.
