Well, I have "donated" to the state for roughly 10 years by getting my tags. This year I made decision that if I didn't fill a tag I would quit hunting (big game). Tman convinced me to get my tags and told me I would tag at least one animal. Well Wednesday morning I sealed the deal on my future donations to the state.
Actually pretty uneventful hunt, we had the blind set up for a week or so in the spot and knew the deer there. I got in the blind at 6:30ish and the deer were in shortly after. First the tukey's then the deer actually. Legal light was 7:10 and the doe was dead by 7:15. I got her in the lungs at 22 yards and I guess she didn't go 35 yards after that. Saw her pile up and game was over. I have a renewed faith in the sport and managed to gain another 2 bow hunters this year, maybe even 3 (Tman you know you want to).
I can't describe how excited I was and the pride I have in harvesting and feeding my family with this bounty. Next year will be awesome!!!

Congratulations. You also know where to go for turkey next spring as a bonus.

Yeah, but I hate those rats with wings. Although I am interested in trying to call them next year.
-
I have never heard the flying bruises reffered to as rats with wings....lol
Congrats on the morale boost!

any kill by bow is a trophy

HighCountry: Looking in your shop helped boost a little more. I am gonna have to build a hanging post for next year, the wife wasn't as impressed as me with the deer hanging from the porch!

At my old house, I had not yet put carpeting in the daylight basement, so I just hung them up from the log beam in the ceiling. :chuckle:

Nice,
Flat tops eat good too!!
-
Just glad to hear you didn't hang it up and call it quits!!! Congrats on the good eats
-
You can blow that shot up and start your own 'Fear the Beard" campaign!! :chuckle:
Way to go!
-
It gets much easier after the pressure relief from getting the first one is down. That looks like the perfect eating size too. Congratulations!

Good one rtspring, I thought I was the only one that still called them flattops sometimes affectionately called skin heads too which I got a comment back from a non hunter female "do you mean bald men?". Nice job Grizzly95 on getting an animal this year. Tag soup for me again this year but looking forward to next season already!
-
Great job grizzly95. I too tagged a does this year and that's a great trophy with a bow  Plus they do taste better

There is always room on my meat rail if you want to do a butcher-a-thon....I will be firing up the grinder this weekend.

 Way to go  glad you filled a tag! good eatting too

I use to listen to the haters of turkey meat. Last year I cut the breasts up, rolled them in flour, followed by egg, and then saltine cracker crumbs. I then deep fried them in olive oil and they were better than any chicken strips I have ever eaten. Try it and you will start calling them back straps with wings. I even deep fried the legs, and though not tender, they had very good flavor.
Congrats on your first bow kill. Any kill with a bow at 22 yards is way better than any kill with a rifle at 222 yards, or 800 yards.

I need to clarify, it's not my first archery kill. I have killed deer and elk, but it has been near 10 years and I was gonna hang it up if I didn't notch at least one tag this year. I will be back out next year with a renewed spirit!
-
Congrats on a quick humane kill.

After ten years it has still got to feel like the first time. Doesn't change my mind on being a great shot and how happy I am for you.

every year I decide not to fill my tag with a doe I wind up doing this :bash: and the thing that guys avataar with the fist and the nuts and the smashing
-
I pretty much set out for any legal animal, just wanted to end a drought, not dry spell, drought! Next year I might set some standards, but we'll see when that comes around. I forgot how good fresh backstrap was!
-
Cngratulations on a beautiful doe.
-
Nice work and glad you dodn't give up.
It's too bad more guys don't shoot does on the last day.
-
Congrats man. I shoot does with my bow almost every year! No shame in that....
-
Congrats, nothing wrong with does :dunno: they taste better IMO.
