Post by: JimmyHoffa on December 18, 2011, 06:39:07 PM: There is a site for winchesters where you can either look at ranges of serial numbers or enter in the serial number to get some manufacture date info. For collectors/value.....earlier than 1964 is something to look for. Has to due with contracting to the Olin Corp.

Post by: high country on December 18, 2011, 08:26:06 PM: Be careful "cleaning it up good" clean the bore and oil the metal, clean the stock.....but don't scrub the patina from the stock or refinish anything....that is a true classic.

Its way to big a cartridge according to most on this site, sell or trade it to me for a cartridge of your liking and I'll take good care of it. I'll be it's new " Daddy " per say. ;)

Post by: dfresh96 on December 20, 2011, 05:22:13 AM: it has some surface rust from the way it was stored before my wifes grandparents were given it.....my grandparents had it in a safe.....but grandpa never did much other than shoot it.....

Especially if it still has the original open sights on it, for some reason the last several Pre 64 300 H&H I have come across or missing the original sights or at least the rear. :bash:

I would take a guess and say it's one of the old Weaver K series scopes?
