So I watch way too many hunting shows. I prefer the archery hunts because that's generally what I hunt and the hunts are a little more relatable to how I hunt. My question is has anyone hunted out of these blinds that look like small apartments? Is it any fun? I have spent many bitter cold days where I wouldn't mind sitting in a heated, fully inclosed studio apartment perched above a food plot, but where's the challenge? Particularly while rifle hunting. Do you have to practice opening the double pane vinyl windows for the shot? To each their own but that doesn't seem to appeal to me, maybe I'm missing something

the only good thing about those is your comfy and warm the whole time...dont consider it hunting though...but ive been raised to hunt the wet coast my whole life...no such things as blinds here :chuckle: but if it floats your boat why not i guess

Oh so the elitist attitude towards other's methods of hunting begins.... I used a treestand this year, kept me off the wet ground, guess I wasn't hunting.... At least the first poster just said it was not his cup of tea, but to say it's not hunting? Just ignorant! :twocents:

a treestand is not one of these "apartments"...and i also said if it floats your boat then why not...lots of people do it...just not what i would do...read my whole post before the bashing begins

Hmmm, guess you didn't mean this part?
There is no difference between an open treestand and a covered heated one. Takes the same amount of figuring out where to put it for either one.
Any other things you personally don't consider "hunting", using dogs, bait, compound bows, scopes, electronic decoys, food plots, high powered rifles, inline muzzleloaders? Get my point? If you don't like something that is legal to do, just STFU! We've got enough problems with anti-hunters trying to tell us what we can or can't do.

sounds like someones pms'n over my opinion....i like the challenge of bein on the ground and having an even playing field with the animal im hunting...if you want to sit in a stand and freeze/sweat ur ass off...depending what stand you have...be my guest....if you dont like my opinion take a midol and dont read it....this is a forum for discussion/opinions and thats what im doin

I am all for tree stand hunting and giving yourself the best advantages when it comes to hunting but imo there is a huge difference between sitting in your climber in the rain or snow and sitting in a heated tree house with a teeshirt and shorts on waiting for a buck to walk in. They are most definitely not the same

if some had the means or the money and the ability to have one in their favorite spot u bet they would. Not a easy task I am sure to erect one of these. The late archery season is all about being comfortable to sit long periods day after day. Whats the difference "hunting on the ground" in a double bull blind?? still cold but u can put nice chairs, blankets...hell even a heater if one chooses..but this person isnt hunting now? Its all about being there when that buck shows up..does it matter how one waits??

I seen one where these guys had everything from an air conditioner and tv with cable. Personally I like sitting in my tree stand rain, sleet, or snow. I just make sure I dress appropriately. I really like the winter months with the snow coming down and you get the deer/elk crunching through the snow, to me that can't be beat. Like stated before though if it's your cup of tea, then drink it but it isn't for me

This ones not even an argument. No where near the same I froze my you know what this yr! You can't get one of those tree houses in the places that these old BT's live. It's a dance between too many clothes on the hike/bike in and not enough clothes on in the stand. IMO you can't have enough clothes on when it's 39 degrees and raining. A person hunting out of a heated covered house blind doesn't even have to consider those things.

I have hunted out of them back on the east coast. I got to say it was quite nice. No different than any other type of hunting other than you are dry and warm. I have had many days of tree stand hunting, many days of still hunting and many many days of just plain walking. Used rifle, shotgun, muzzle loader and bow. It is a tool to help you achieve the end result and that is harvesting a mature animal.
It cracks me up to read some of these some times. Well thats not what I call hunting, if you ever get invited to hunt the east coast that is pretty much the way you are going to hunt there is not a lot of land to stretch your legs out. My brother hunts on 51 acres of land has hunted it the last 21 years. Killed more deer than I probably ever will. Its just a tool.

I have used the primitive ones. They can be comfortable, but really isn't my style. But back east when the land you can hunt it very limited, they are very effective. The WT in those areas may share 10 different farms, so whoever hides the best and has the best feed/cover usually wins. One guy I know has one that has propane heaters, a small port-o-potty urinal, and a battery powered TV so he can watch football. Different areas have different ways. The mere mention of road hunting in other states would probably get you labeled a poacher and run out of certain towns.

I guess it all depends on how you hunt and what you're able to do..... I myself have made blinds and climbed a few trees and even shot some game from them..... I've never used a stand or a mini apartment..... But I really bet my Dad would've loved to hunt that way this late season.... He is recovering from knee surgery and had complications after and had to have another surgery..... So I'm betting if he had a choice he would have hunted that way this late season..... But I know he wouldn't do it normally.... :twocents:

I have ice fished on a bucket freezing cold and ice fished in a comfy shack.
Anyone have a nice comfy 300 sq ft hide over a food plot over run with bucks you just let me know....I try your style of hunting no problem.

I should have known that this would just turn into an argument, my bad. I understand where guys are coming from using these blinds. It just seems like it would be a boring way to hunt year after year. I'm sure this style of hunting is great for a guide/outfitter. Clients see deer, they are comfortable, safe and being completely inclosed allows a guy to get away with a lot of things that would bust a buck if your in a treestand. Growing up hunting whitetails in the NE corner, hunting these set ups just isn't generally feasible. I would be more than happy to give it a try, especially if it meant a shot at a big buck. It does surprise me how many of the shows on tv feature hunts of this nature. Obviously there are plenty of hunters out there that use these stands or else there wouldn't be that many shows featuring this method. Bottom line is to each their own. I'm not saying it is not hunting, just not the type of hunting that seems like a ton of fun to me. I was just curious how many guys have hunted out of these types of blinds/stands and if there is more to it than meets the eye. If that makes me an elitist then I need to upgrade my gear because it is far from elite.

i was able to hunt some property this year and we used a blind for our afternoon hunt. it was poring rain and without that blind it would have been miserable! but with the blind we stayed all day dry

Not to somewhat change the topic but for me, it is not so much the stand itself but more so where the stand is located. If someone were to have this sort of "apartment blind" in an area where they had to pack the materials in over some rougher terrain and really put in the effort then I am all for it. Like with a tree stand where the guy scouts, finds some good spots and works hard to make it happen is great. It is the sitting over huge food plots that the guy drove to and walked 50 yards that gets me. He/she then says how "hard" they have hunted. :dunno: I am not saying I respect the people that do it any less, it just isn't for me. :twocents:

dont work harder, work smarter. or dont hunt harder, hunt smarter? you can sit alot longer if your comfortable. i see no difference in using a climber, ground blind, apartment blind, ect. if it makes you feel like more of a man to sit out in the crappy cold weather then good for you. :twocents:

I wasn't referring to any old blind or treestand. I own a pop up blind. I scout, find scrape lines, pinch points, heavy travel routes. I set up, brush it in etc. I also build ground blinds out of natural materials. I also hunt treestands looking for the same types of sign as mentioned above. I do think this is different than using a small apartment over a food plot. But again, whatever gets the job done.
I think it just boils down to everyone gets something different out if hunting. Some people shoot them out their bathroom windows while sitting on the pot and call it hunting. Some like a treestand in the middle of nowhere, some like these blinds we had debated. Maybe I should have questioned why there are so many hunting shows featuring this style of hunting. Then again it probably goes back to the fact that it seems to be a high percentage method of getting big bucks while getting good footage.

I see a lot of those in TV shows, mostly texas :chuckle: A lot of them have there rig parked right under it next to the only food plot and water source in a high fence ranch. :chuckle: I dont know why any of them use camo :dunno:
