I've heard good things about that camera, reliable and it does take some pretty damn good pictures for a cheaper cam.

Have fun!

Amazon has these on sale now until Jan 7 for $49.99.  I bought one along with a solar charger and cord to go with a sealed lead acid battery I have laying around doing nothing.  For $80 I should be able to get years of no battery changes!

With the 49.95 camera above just be careful not to set it up in direct sunlight. I had the sun damage some LCD screens on one of the cams I had similar to this.

Yeah...the X6C's are nice... I like them because the digital display is on the inside.... it was a very reliable camera for me this year....the bears really like how they taste though.  :chuckle:

The X6C's were the highest end ones I have used. They were 120-130 when I got mine. Now I think you can find them for 80-100.

Thanks for the link!!! Now I have to explain to the wife why I need 6 trail cameras.  :chuckle:
Yep, me too!  This one made it 7 or 8 for me; most of them are homemade, though, so those don't count when begging the wife for another.

Bobcat... The one on Amazon is a Moultrie W6XAC.

OK, I'm really thinking about getting one. But I just don't know anything about WGI cameras. But it seems it would be hard to go wrong at that price.

Does any one use the Moultrie Game Spy M-100? It seems to have decent reviews. I just ordered one of them and one of the X6C's.

How is the one at Amazon for battery life (internal)?  I have a spot on my driveway that I would like to put it to monitor rigs coming and going so it would only take about 10 pics per day.

I think most any that take AA batteries will work OK and last long if you use lithiums. Just not sure about trigger speed on a moving vehicle as well as head or tail lights washing out night pics. Too bad there isn't an extension cord adapter for trail cams.

Actually, I have a DC inverter that I could rig up to work if I set it up in the side of my pump house.  Gonna order one and give it a try.

I recieved these cams last night...I set them up and tested them outside...highly impressed with the clarity and the sensitivity of the sensor...very easy to set up.my guess is they will last quite sometime on the 8 double A batterys they require to operate on.

I ordered 2 this morning.  I am anxious to see how well they work as security cameras and replace my back fenceline critter cam.  My old Moultrie still works fine but will let the kidsu have it to play with.

I am really tempted at that price. I'm having a hard time holding back. I've just got to come up with a reason in my head why I can't live without it. One thing is I know there are going to be some more great deals to be had, with new models coming out soon and the stores trying to get rid of old inventory. There are some other tempting deals right now too. I've seen the Wildview 2 mp white flash cam for $39.99. Also saw a Primos Truth Cam 35 for $59.99.

the wildviews I own..they work, but have issues alot!  they eat C batterys..the extra $10 for the X6c is have twice the cam in my eye. I may purchase 3 more next week

That's the only issue I've had with the one Wildview that I own. But I solved that by using an external battery. But you're right, that's the reason I probably won't buy any more of the Wildviews.

Did you receive these yet? I just ordered one tonight. I got some info on chasingame.com that if the manufacturing date is prior to August (2011) then they will most likely have "whiteout" issues. I guess WGI is pretty good about exchanging defective models for newer ones that work.

So check the manufacturing date when you get them, if you haven't yet, and if you don't mind, let me know what yours are. I'm just curious, since I've already got one on the way. I hope I don't have to mess around with sending it back to either Amazon or WGI.

I could deal with the occasional bad picture but if it's every picture for a half hour period in the morning, and the same in the evening, then I wouldn't be too happy. I've got two Primos cameras to return as it is, hope I don't have more issues with cameras that don't work properly. But from what I hear, these WGI cameras have much better picture quality than the Primos, so that is appealing.

I am excited to see these at almost half the price they were a few months ago. I was going to buy one but decided to wait until next year or until clearance sales at end of season. Seriously not even two  months ago this same camera w6xac from amazon was 89.99 that is almost half off. So any of you guys that ordered one from amazon... do they work well and when were they manufactured?

I bought two of these for pre-season archery elk scouting last year.  They worked great, except the minor white-out issue.  White out only seemed to occur during pre-dawn or dusk timeframes (i.e., LEDs flashed, during low light conditions and white-out was due to over exposure).  But, I had hundreds of pictures and the cams were in the woods for over two months and I still had plenty of battery life left after I shot my elk on opening day!  Cam took a pic of the elk just before I released.  Wish it was in "record" mode and I would have captured the arrow passing thru my elk!

I just got mine today and it has the same manufacture date. So hopefully there won't be a white out issue with it. I'll try to get it out in the woods tomorrow. I've got an elk trail in mind that will be just right for it!

I gotta say, I sure do like the small size of it! It didn't look that small in the picture. I got batteries in it and got it programmed last night. I wish I could afford to get a couple more. If this one takes good pictures and IF Amazon still has them in a couple months, I probably will order a couple more then. Another thing I really like is that they take AA batteries. All my other cameras take D's or C's. AA's are a lot cheaper.

Yeah, I was surprised at how small it is.  (that's what she said).  I originally ordered 2 but backed out and only got one.  going to set it up along the driveway to see how it does.

Well I got the Wildgame cam set up but changed my mind and didn't set it up on the elk trail, but instead I decided to put it on the same tree with my Primos 46 so I can compare them. So I packed in another 25 pounds of apples and put the WGI cam right above the Primos. It will be interesting to see how they compare. A couple things I noticed with the WGI cam is that there is no option for a 3 shot or 5 shot burst like the Primos, but that shouldn't be a problem because the delay between pictures is 15 seconds. The other thing that is different from any other camera I have is that the door to access the battery compartment and the programming buttons is on the bottom, and because of that you have to remove the camera from the tree to do any programming or to change the batteries. Which is kind of a hassle but it turned out to be not so bad as I just took off the lower bungee cord and tilted the bottom of the camera up. I will post some pictures in a couple weeks.

I set mine up right under my old Moultrie fence cam on the same tree and put a bunch of ground corn and a couple of old apples in front of them.  I also want to compare the pics.  With the corn I'll probably get a bunch of raccoon and quali pics.  We'll see.

My first impression with this Amazon camera is: "Dang, it's fast!"  It also has an excellent sensor.  I was getting pictures into the sun of cars going by at 30 mph at a distance of about 90'.  I got pictures of every person that walks on our street, so a person at 80' and at 100' was setting it off.  The runners set it off but were blurry.  The walkers were fairly clear.

I did get some blown out pictures in the morning, but I think it was a lens frosting issue instead of any camera troubles; we had a very thick layer of frost until the sun came up.  It got good pictures in the evening.

I had it set up next to my Moultrie M80 as a test where my dogs like to hang out and it got a chance at motion on the road.  I got 705 pictures with the Wildgame and the Moultrie got 250 even though it was on 2-shot mode.  The Moultrie pictures were better quality in all departments, but the Wildgame saw much more motion than the Moultrie and was much faster to get a picture taken.  The 700 pictures was .98mb used on the card.

I formatted the cards before I thought about posting any pictures, so no comparison pictures for you.

Don't know about battery life because I have it plugged in to an external battery, so I didn't put batteries in it.  There must be an internal battery, because I didn't lose the settings when unplugging the external battery.  One note is that this thing runs on 6V and not 12v, so the battery and solar panel need to be the 6V ones instead of the 12v ones I posted above.

I checked mine yesterday, after a 7 day soak. It had 704 pictures and not "whiteouts". No color pictures either, as apparently it was too dark in there even in the middle of the day. I pulled it and will find another spot to test it out that's more in the open. I want to see what the daytime color pictures look like. I'm definitely happy with it for a $50 camera. I especially like the small size and the long battery life. The only real negative thing I can say is that it only takes one picture at at time. No 3 shot or 5 shot bursts like with my Primos.

A few photos from it:

I have one of these up in the back yard snapping pictures of the dogs day and night they seem to take decent photos. I do wish there was a burst mode but so far money well spent.Do those elk bombs work? I have seen both the buck bomb and the elk bomb in stores but I hadn't smelled either and was worried they would just scare away animals. do you have success with them?

The three cameras iI ordered yesterday, C-post (New to game cameras), ended up being this model.  Do I have to format the SD cards before I install them into these cameras? I will be setting a couple out this comming weekend. It is good to see all the good reviews on here about these cameras. I was kind of unsure about wich cam to buy.
Does anyone have any pointers about what kind of bait to use this time of year? With the wet weather should I stay away from cob and alfalfa? I was thinking about apples and some salt.

If the sensor distance and trigger speed is as good as you guys are saying than that is a hell of a deal for that camera. Nice pics Bobcat, looks like that cam will work well. I would like to get a couple but I am in lock down $ mode right now.

Bobcat, how would you compare it to the $50 tasco's? I've got 4 of those now and trigger speed is good but seems the sensor is pretty limited in range.
Title: Re: NEW GAME CAMERA X6C WILDGAME CAMERA
Post by: bobcat on January 18, 2012, 09:35:03 AM
I like the Tascos and I'm not happy that I just had one of my two Tascos stolen last weekend. I was thinking these two w6x's would make up for it, but really they don't, because they're totally different cameras. The biggest difference of course is that the Tasco is a white flash camera and this is a infrared. So with the Tasco you get color pictures, the w6x you only get color when there's enough light that it doesn't need the IR flash. The other difference is this camera takes AA batteries instead of the C's or D's, depending on which Tasco you have. But as far as function for a deer scouting cam, I would say they're pretty close. They both only take one picture per trigger, and then have a delay of 15 seconds before the next picture is taken. The w6x is 6 megapixels instead of 3 but to me the pictures don't look any better than the Tasco, they're just a lot bigger and take up more room on the SD card. The w6x does have the advantage of much more range at night. The IR flash is rated to 50 feet, the Tasco only has a 15 foot range. The sensor on the w6x is also rated to 50 feet, I believe the Tasco is about 30 feet, although I think it's rated to 45. The trigger speed is good on both cams. On Chasingame they have the w6x at 1 second without flash, and 1.5 with flash. The Tasco they have at 1.5 with or without flash.

I think overall as a deer scouting camera, this w6x beats the Tasco. Uses cheaper batteries, better battery life, no flash so it's less likely to be seen by humans and less likely to spook deer, much better range at night. As long as it holds up well to the weather as my Tascos did then it should be a great camera. Hopefully Amazon will still have some left when you're ready to buy.

Thanks Bobcat, I was hoping that it would have better pictures than the Tasco at night. Not that the Tasco's dont take good night pics it just seems that the sensor range is very limited at night in the rain. Thats sounds like a pretty fair analysis so thanks for that.

How far in/what type of area (trail, clear cut etc) did you have your camera in when it was stolen? Was that the first cam you've had stolen?

I have not had one stolen yet but I have one up in a spot I dont feel real comfortable with. I know its coming its a matter of when not if, comes along with running 5 cams at a time I guess.

Thanks for posting pictures from this camera Bobcat!  I ordered a bunch of these after seeing them.  Can't imagine I'll be disappointed for $50!

I've had about five cams out for almost a year now continuously and didn't have one stolen until now. This one I knew was a risk but I figured with no hunting seasons going on, nobody would be in there. It was just in a spot that is too easy to get to. I had it in some open timber on an elk trail that  they use at night, it's adjacent to a field they feed in, and only a half mile off the highway, and about 1/4 mile from the gate, and flat. I only had it there for a week and only planned on leaving it for another week. I was just curious to see if there were any bulls or if it was only cows using the field. I knew better. I have never locked up a camera either, but I may start thinking about doing so. Problem is it will cost just as much or more to get a case, a cable, and a lock as what I paid for the camera. But the most valuable thing that I will lose could be the memory card with hundreds of pictures if a camara's been soaking for a few weeks. So the stuff to lock them up may be worth it.

Thats to bad someone had to steal it Bobcat. Any that i put out on public land have a lockbox and cable, even that wont stop them though if they really want it.
