No big bull tags for us this year. Has anyone hunted Dayton. Looking to try the southern portion of it. Usually we hunt Lick Creek but looking for something new.

tried to a couple times, but there is just to much private property there....enough animals, BIG ANIMALS at that......but to much private....not enough public......
good luck though, maybe try to get in with a landowner, thats your best bet for sucess there!

If you are willing to walk a little and hunt rough country, towards the south of the unit its awesome. There is so much public land in that unit it would take a guy ten years to cover it all. Just my :twocents:

It appears that most of the unit is private, but looks to be lots of public land in the southern part of the unit. There's also the wilderness area to the south. Guess it's time for a road trip.

it's about half private and half national forest, elk numbers are fairly low and hunter #'s are fairly high especially around the roads, which the unit has plenty of.

Bluebulls, Sounds like elk hunting in the Blues. :chuckle:

I'm hunting rifle. I'd like to get into archery, but I'm my dad's only hunting partner, so I'll stick with rifle for now.
