Blue creek... The people catching fish were using 8 - 12 feet of leader. My son and I went 0 - 3 and we did not floss like the others. But it was fun either way and it rained most of the day which is pretty cool.

was the river blown out?
-
Been wanting to get down there, would be interested to hear how the river was, all todays rain didn't help.
-
0-3... ouch :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: on the point or at the crack pipe?

I was at the very end. The water is getting high. It will be lights out when the water starts to drop. I watched a dude at the handy cap spot. A nice able body person was there helping. He hooked up and landed a nice chrome steelhead. Good karma to the helper.

Okay I will Bite. What is FLOSS.

I am new to fishing as I have only been steel and salmon fishing since last October. Fish breath by pushing water into their gills. They do that by opening their mouth or open and closing their mouth.
So the long leader gets accross their mouth and when the hook end get to the fish the hook digs in and you have a fish on. It seams the longer the leader the better the chance to get your hook into a fish. Thus the line is flossed across the fish mouth.
There are two thoughts for fishing. One is as long as it is legal it is fishing. Two is the fish must bite the lure to catch the fish.

The cowlitz seems to be the place for those long leaders.
-
Raised it to 8000 QFS, I will be hitting it a couple days after they drop it back down.

You're killing me.

when i used to fish the cowlitz a lot, high water was my favorite time to go down there. the fish are right in front of you, no need for long casts whatsoever. if you can find room to do it, fishing eggs under a bobber in the slow water just along the grass is deadly...
anybody fishing the creek still? when the fish still came up the creek to the trout hatchery(i think they started releasing from the salmon hatchery in 2006) we would slay them in the deep holes in the creek. there could be 50 guys fishing the river but hardly anyone along blue creek. haven't been there in a few years so i can't say how it is any more, but it was a lot of fun with the river at about 20kcfs.

Fishing the crack pipe with egg and bobber and only fishing the first 15 feet of water from shore you can get into fish.
-
Try fishing that float and eggs with a leader about 1-1.5' longer than the depth of the water, and a splitshot 8" up from the eggs... Deadly...

There is always alot of fish in the Cow it just really depends on the water level seems like if there going to bite like crazy or not, Im sure I will be down there or the Nooch on Monday.. Flossin!.

When flossing how much leader do you use? What is your typical set up?
