got a gun and reloading stuff for a 25-06. so what is a good powder to use as that is the only thing i dont have, oops i dont have primers. i have 75 gr. bullets in v-max and 110 gr interbond and lots of brass. what kind of primers would work best? thanks for watching and thanks for the info. see you onthe range. mike w

I use Varget for my 75grn and 4350 for my 120 grn bullets. Works well for me.

I always loaded imr4831 at 57-58 grs with 85-87gr bullets and cci 250 primers. 100tsx at 56 or so. Fast and accurate in 3 of my twobits.

help me out here. why do you use varget for 75 and a different powder for a heavier bullet? i dont know much abot reloading so any info is welcome. i am asking cuz one box of reloads i bought was varget with 75 gr bullets. how much powder did you use? hope thisisnot too many questions. thanks., mike w

Lighter bullets benefit from faster powders, heavier bullets, slower powder.....typically.

another dumb qn. what are some fast powders and some slow powders? i have 4831. does any powder work? mike w

Google "powder burn rate chart" they will be ranked in speed of burn. You should find plenty of reading. Imr4831 is one of my favorites.

I think that you should purchase a good generic reloading manual and read it through a couple of times it is a wealth of info. It will tellyou about primers, powders bullets , brass, and all the fundamentals of reloading. The Lyman Rifle Manual is a good one and it will have a section on the 25-06 recepies for good loads. Start out with manuels from press manufactures as they seem to explain the process better.
This is one place that having reference books close at hand far out weighs having a keyboard handy. If you don't understand something in the book then start asking questions.
I keep eight or nine manuals on my bench and I've been doing this for 45yrs. I NEVER USE A LOAD OFF THE COMPUTER UNLESS IT COMES FROM A MANUFACTURES DATA RELEASE OR I CAN VERIFY IT IN A MANUAL!!!!

good info aws. i am aware of lots as i did reload like 30 years ago. just getting into it again. ar the faster powders for shotguns and the slower powders for rifles and the slower powders for magnums? mike w

IMR 4350 OR 4831 works great in the 25-06 :tup: :tup:

I will second what AWS has said. My 25-06 loads, as with my other calibers, are tailored specifically for my rifle and they are pretty hot loads. my 25-06 pushes the 75 gr hp at just over 4000 fps, and yes this is verified with the chrono. Get a good manuel, read up on the caliber and work up a load that is accurate in your rifle. What someone else loads might not work well for you. This is what reloading is all about. developing that load for you specific purpose. I do really like varget for the 75's though.

There are burning rates from very fast 22-hornet to very slow for some large medium bores like the 30-378. Not all magnums take slow powders and not all small cartridges take fast powders. For example the some of the same powders that work well in the 223 Rem work well in the 458 Win Mag. Thats where having reference books handy makes understanding things easier.

I never tried varget powder ,,,but I really do not care about speed ...I want them hitting the same hole :yeah: like ya said its all about what your gun likes and how it performs with different powders ..not counting all the variables that go with it ...like bullet depth- full length sizing - neck sizing which I do mostly and makes my guns shoot holes into holes ....thats the fun thing about building your own load ..... :twocents: :tup:

Plus I tried a 115 gr Hornaday SST this year out of my kids 25-06 and he seriously dumped his muley this year at about 150 ...very little blood shot meat :o I thought it would of DONE ALOT MORE DAMAGE but it did not ...I do not like hot loads out of a fast gun ...its nice to eat it :chuckle: :chuckle: :twocents:
