Well better late than never. I hunted my area hard, passing several does, spikes and forked deers. After waiting several weeks, hours and several grunts, bleats and rattling this guy finally showed up. I honestly think that this guy was running to the buck bomb that I was spraying into the air, the ground and the tree limbs. He came in on a heavy deer trail that I was watching 24 feet from my tree stand. He had his nose to ground and walking north to south when I barked at him to get his attention and that's when I released the arrow. It was a mid shot, but hey I'll take any hit, anytime. He ran about 20 yards and I barked at him again which slowed him down. Great deer to close out the year.........

wanttohuntmore, I've read several articles stating that rattling, and calls still work in the late season. So I tried it out, mostly grunting, and a light hit of the horns (sparring) got their attention. Buck bomb worked pretty well, had alot of deer pics on the trail camera after wasting an entire can on the ground and tree limbs. (sharing some tactics to help out)

Nice heavy antlers on him and good job sticking it out to the end.

Great looking buck...probably the last one of the year for Hunt Wa.

Nice buck! Were you in a red jeep by chance?

Congrats on a great looking buck to go with your Big Blackie from last year on the Central Impact Area. I sure do miss hunting on Ft. Lewis. Maybe someday I will get back up there...

Can't wait to get back in the woods and scout out other areas that may have potential..That'll be sometime in the late season when I get back...Thanks again everyone, meat in the freezer.... :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL:

Who couldn't remember that stud blackie you shot last year. I first saw the picture up at the Northwest Adventure Center. Did this years buck come from Lewis as well?
Here is Grunt's buck from last year...

Two great bucks in two years.. Nice work
Scree, thanks . It took alot of patience and frustration. After waiting and passing up some shooters I figured I'd wait it out. I took my buddy to my area blind folded of course :chuckle: he wanted to call it quits, when I told him no, because the big boys are coming out after 10:00 in the morning, and sure enough a big boy came out but didn't present a shot for him. So after that incident, I made some shooting lanes and I hunted on my own and waited, and waited, sprayed several cans of the buck bombs on the trails, and the tree limbs. So after waiting patiently after several weeks, grunts, bleats, rattling finally caught this guys attention. I have some deer pics I took with my buddies trail cam before the late season opened up, just to keep them coming....Good luck to you this year...Hope to make the late season this year when I get back.....
