After a bit of discussion with my better half, I am being "allowed" :chuckle: to make an investment in a decent tent stove this year. I have narrowed down my choices to Kwik Kamp and Four Dogs(but if I a missing other worthy contenders, please let me know). I will be heating a 12X14 canvas tent + 12X10 cookshack sometimes. Any recommendations out there? The stove will be always be used for road camping, so weight isn't an issue. I want good burn time as I have had tent stoves in the past and really don't want something I need to stoke in the middle of the night. Any thoughts on the subject would be appreciated.
Also, does anyone know what kind of deals can be found at the sportmans shows on stoves? Thanks again!

I am partial to Cylinder Stoves. cylinderstoves.com
-
better off building your own, built mine out of an old hot water tank, works great, still had coals in it after 28 hours
-
i run a riley colt in my 12x12
-
Im a little concerned about the wear on a lightweight stove like a Riley, kni-co, sims, etc. Looking for a more heavy duty, all night burner.
-
+1 for Riley pellet stoves. Worth the extra money.

No folding stoves in a wall tent that's not horse packed in. Sacrifice too much burn time. I have a 14 x 16 tent with an adittional 8 x 14 room attached that I heat with the outfitter size cylinder stove. I use this late season in NE WA with no problems at all. The yukon size would be even better.

cylender stove x 100

Stove Kit and build your own out either a 55 or 30 gallon drum
I got the kit, just have not got the drum yet. I'm going to go with 30 gallon for my tent.

Cylinder stove, they were at the Puyallup show two years ago(didn't go last year) and they had a pellet attachment on a cylinder stove that I bought, it burns all night. Not warm enough with pellets when the temp goes below 5 degrees but you can burn wood when you close off the pellet attachment.

Do you know how they get around the non EPA certified stove requirement in wa, Or, and CA? I wanted to get one of those barrel kits from Harborfreight, nor northern tool but they say they don't ship here. And the closes one is in Boisie ID i think... I know my bro used the door off an old stove and used a large wheel for the body and welded everything else up...

I bought mine at the Mclendon Hardware here in town.

My brother-in-law and I own a 10x12 tent and heat it with Cylinder Brand Stove. It’s the Outfitter, even with a pipe damper you have to load it atleat once during the night. Great stove, well built but a little expressive. If cost is part of your decision I would build a barrel stove. You can get them ripping, build a bed of coals, add a few full length rounds and damp it down.
The first pic is our Cylinder Stove and second pic of a Barrel Stove I just built for Dad. I’m thinking of going the barrel route. Same foot print in the tent and I can sleep thru the night.

Buy the biggest Kwik Kamp they make. We fiddle farked around for years with other various stoves and finally bought a KK two season ago. We're kicking ourselves for not buying one sooner.
-
:yeah: I've got a KK, and I love it! Also have a home made stove from a propane cylinder, and it goes like hell. When it's real cold, I put both of them in the 16x20.

The one on Rainer in Renton? might slide by tomorrow on my rounds.

Thanks for all the great feedback and pics. I'm not very handy when it comes to welding, so I'll have to stick with a pre- made item.... Sounds like KK and Cylinder are both good.. No comments on four dog, but saw some bad reviews on there customer service on another site.
I wasn't at the sportsmans show last year, were Cylinder or KK vendors there? If so, anyone remember how the show pricing compared to there normal prices? I wasn't sure if it was worth waiting for or should I just shop online? Again, thanks for the feedback. It's never too early to start preparing for the next hunt.

I have a Kni-co stove out of Wallowa ,Or ...excellent customer service. Bullblaster ordered it and was here in 2 days and extremely helpful. I am happy with the stove and well made

I missed the show last year but they were there the year before(Cylinder Stoves). The Puyallup show is just around the corner, I would wait and see if they are there. When I bought mine it was only slightly cheaper but the real benefit was being able to see all of the options and talk with the guys about what my needs were. They also had an oil drip setup, you could use kerosene and even used motor oil to burn. I went with pellets because I thought they were cleaner and wouldn't smell as bad as the oil.

That kwik kamp stove sure looks nice. If their listed burn times are accurate, that's the ticket

Hey couesbitten could you post pic of your propane cylinder stove. Might steal your plan if its ok with you. I enjoy building stoves from cylinders.

we've been using a cylinder stove, outfitter model for an 11x15 tent with and 8x11 kitchen. never any issues with it. you should probably use the yukon for a larger setup like yours. the kwik kamp stoves are basically the same and should perform very well. they sure look nice, and due to their shape ill bet size for size they hold more wood then the cyl stove does.
-
I ordered the wood stove to match my 12x14 from the wall tent company and it does really well.
I do have to fill it 1 time in the night about 3am from a 9 or 10pm fill. In the morning I can stock it up and damper it down and get an all day burn out of it, its not keeping the tent as warm as when I am in there but it keeps it plenty warm for not having anyone there.

How much is a bag of pellets?
