Title: 1911 style .22 Lr. Pistol...
Post by: JJB11B on January 11, 2012, 10:49:08 PM: Ok so I sold my S&W M&P .40 today...I am looking at getting a .22 caliber Semi Auto.. I would like a 1911 style I.E. Sig 1911/22 but I am open to suggestions. I already have a Bearcat and a MKIII competition Target. I am looking for something to train with that is cheaper to shoot than my .45s. My biggest problem with most semi auto 22s is that a lot of the newer ones are made of zinc or aluminum. I am looking for a REAL steel pistol. I plan on putting several thousand rounds a year through it.

Post by: JackOfAllTrades on January 11, 2012, 11:04:34 PM: I would suggest that you buy a Kimber Classic or Target, then buy the Kimber rimfire upper for it.. No, it won't be quite as accurate as your MKIII, but will be quite adequate for training. I shoot Bullseye competition, and there are a few of the Kimber 22's on the line so they are no slouch... Still, then you get a 45 and 22 on the same frame.

My training though.. Is shot with target loads. I can load 45acp, (pour my own lead), for about $.09ea. Middle of the road target 22 ammo is (even if you're going to shoot CCI blue box) is right about the same price (retail).

Another rimfire gun that nearly duplicates the angles, heft and controls of a 1911 would be the S&W model 41. Great accurate guns with a good trigger! A Buckmark more duplicates the 1911 angles and controls too. But not the weight.

Post by: Mookie on January 11, 2012, 11:07:04 PM: Why not get a 1911 and an upper? That way you can swap calibers, they only run $200-$300 for good ones. The Sig 1911 is getting great reviews, been thinking about one myself.

BTW, several thousands of rounds a year is nothing for an aluminum, zinc, or polymer frame. Steel is heavier and that is about the only difference when it comes to 22 handguns. The 22/45 is a 1911 grip style and is a proven platform, it's polymer but so what.

I handled the GSG and was not pleased with it. felt like a pos to me. My dad has the Ruger 22/45 I think its weird. Has anyone tried putting the kimber kit on a Springfield frame? I have a Springfield 1911 Loaded. I have polishid the sh!t out of her guts.

I found several on Youtube. You probably know, but in case you don't, GSG makes the 1911-22 for Sig. It's the exact same handgun. GSG has some different finish options. Look for Nutnfancy on Youtube. He probably has the review you want.
