O.K Got the meat taken care of .....So anyway we leave here around 3:30 am and roll into town about 6:45 am ....Cold but no snow ... we head up Rose Valley r.d and come to one blue Gate on the left I pull into this gate and I mean elk parts everywhere ! Heads - guts -legs and hides everywhere .. I TOLD THE BOYS THEIR HAS BEEN SOME HEAVY HARVESTING GOING ON UP HERE :dunno: :chuckle:So we head up the 1700 r.d and take the 1st right and as I come around the corner ...ELK way to quick to get a shot...Dang the first 5 min. into the hunt and we let it get away.. :bash:So we roll on ...we run around for about 1 hour and take another r.d and we head up this rough hill and soon as I get to the top I look off to my left and now I see 5 more . We get out and of course just our luck ....5 rag horn bulls ...You kidding me :dunno: :bash: they just stand there looking at us ...After hunting and checking out the area we have lunch and roll on ..its now about 1:00 pm So we take another road and coming down the hill I turn left and we come to a dead ..This area has been thinned So I go to turn around and as soon as I get turned around I look down threw the timber and dang there are 3 more all cows we hurry up and get out and they take off :dunno: :bash: we get back in the truck and the truck would not move ...What the heck !!!!! Tranny !!! I left it cool down and off we go again .. Well it made all kinda noise but we made it to the motel ... I call around to have it looked at but no one could help us until today ...So a buddy was coming down this morning So we all jumped in his rig .... So we head out to another area and I told him to drop us off and we will hunt around this unit for awhile ...He drops us off and we did not go 100 yrd when my oldest says dad dad right there ... O Yeah herd of 8 cows .. My youngest chambers a round and they run up the hill about 100 yrds or so and stop ...I said shoot the lead cow ..Poooow ... she runs about 30 yrds and flips upside down ... WHOOOO !! Now my buddy heard us shot So comes back and said did you get one ...we said yes ..I told him to run down the road because they went into those alders ...He is not gone 10 min and Poooow again .. I run over to edge and yells got one ....That was an awesome hunt for only being in the unit 20 min ... 2 ELK DOWN ....i ran my truck home and made it ... Thank god for that ....I will have it in the shop tomorrow !!!!! I would like to say thanks to T-BAR & WDFW HATES ME . For putting us on some elk .... My son Teddy says thanks too !!!!

Congrats to your son and buddy, this place is crazy thick with Elk as you obviously well know. Only thing is.... those weren't 5 raghorn bulls you seen, those were big bulls for around here! :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: Na glad you guys had a good time other than the truck issues.

yeah I hear ya ...whats a trophy in that unit ? about 190 :chuckle: :dunno: I seen sheet loads of horning everywhere I went .... not counting all the trees in peoples yards that were all toren up !!! I may go down and hunt with my bow this year ....not a trophy hunter so just filling the freezer is good with me !

careful with bowhunting down there. a lot of times weyerhauser is completely locked up during archery season. sometimes it is walk in only and very rarely can you drive on their land that time of year.

thats fine ... I do not mind walking ... plus its time to get a mountain bike

Or even be able to walk for that matter, I forgot the exact days but they had it closed for bit in the 2011 early archery season for fire danger. I think if I remember right it was only open at the first part and the very end of that hunt, it only stops few though.

Yeah that's pretty respectable for around here, I'd say 250 is big for even the local premier draw hunts in the area. You ever get down here give me a holler.
